There's no place like home – the only place where we can truly be ourselves. Our interiors reflect our personality: every object has its own story and is an expression of our individual identity. At Vitra, we believe in the principle of collage – the idea that a vibrant living space is not achieved by conforming to a unified plan, but rather gains character through a mix of old and new, classic and contemporary, favourite mementos and found objects.
The Vitra Accessories Collection embodies this vision, ranging from timeless creations by Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard or George Nelson to the newest products by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius or Michel Charlot.

Charles & Ray Eames — 1945

the preludes to serious ideas.’

Charles & Ray Eames — 1945
Eames Elephant
Animal figures are classics in the world of toys, for they captivate the imagination and inspire endless hours of play.
And elephants have always been a special favourite.
In the early 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames spent several years developing and refining a technique for moulding plywood into
three-dimensional shapes, creating a series of furniture items and sculptures in the process. Among these initial designs was a two-part elephant figure with complex curvatures requiring highly sophisticated fabrication methods that prevented the object from entering mass production. One prototype, which
was given to Charles's 14-year-old daughter Lucia Eames, was loaned to the Museum of Modern Art in New York for a 1946
exhibition. It is still in the possession of the Eames family today.
After introducing a limited edition of the legendary Eames Elephant in 2007, Vitra has now added the plywood version
to its standard portfolio: 2017 marks the first serial production of this sculptural figure with a high-quality face veneer of
American cherry wood.
Several years ago, the Eames Elephant was also launched in plastic, making it available to the target group for which it was originally intended: children. And a smaller version – with an
identical design but reduced in scale – likewise comes in plastic in a choice of colours.

Eames Dot Pattern
Like many other prominent twentieth-century architects and designers, Charles and Ray Eames
also sought to implement their ideas about colours, shapes and materials in the design of textiles. The
‚Dot Pattern‘ was created in 1947 in conjunction with an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New
York. The pattern is a large-scale graphic composition made up of crosses and dots, thereby referencing the
abstract paintings by Ray Eames from the 1930s.
Charles & Ray Eames
Designers
Charles and Ray Eames are counted among the most important fi gures of twentieth-century design. Their accomplishments
span the fi elds of furniture design, fi lmmaking, photography and exhibition design. Vitra is the sole authorised manufacturer of
