This bronze sculpture/fountain is located near the corner of Nelson and Kingsway Public art can be found throughout Metrotown, from the Korean War Memorial in Central Park, to the “Water Spheres” installation at Royal Oak Avenue and Dover Street. In Metro Downtown (Walk #4), there is an emerging “Art Walk” along the south side of Beresford Street, between Willingdon Avenue and Dow Street. This includes sculptures, a digital panel, and a programmable/curated digital screen. The aim of the public art is to create a distinct sense of place that encourages people to linger, eat, shop and explore. Below are a few examples of art found throughout Metrotown. The numbers on the photos correspond to numbers on the map. Cubes. UNKNOWN ARTIST. This steel sculpture salutes volunteers and volunteering in Burnaby. It is located on Kingsway, east of Sussex Ave. Chair Column. AL MCWILLIAMS. At 15 feet tall, this stack of steel chairs seems to defy gravity. It is located on Silver Avenue in Station Square. Aurora. COLIN KWOK. This bronze sculpture/fountain is located in the outdoor pedestrian corridor of The Crystal Mall. Evangeline and Bay Bébé. JOE FAFARD. These realistic looking bronze powder-coated horse sculptures are located in the Metrotown Library grounds. Old Column. LEAD PENCIL STUDIO. This is a 3-dimensional sketch of a tree becoming a section of lumber. It is located on Beresford Street at Willingdon. Say Nothing in Bright Colours. INSTANT COFFEE. This shimmering sequin mural is on the north side of Central Blvd at Station Square. Shed and Blacktail. MUSE ATELIER. The elegant and elemental form of deer antlers were the inspiration behind these oversized aluminum sculptures. Sited on the Beresford Street Art Walk on Silver Avenue and Telford Avenue, they appear as if naturally shed. Dolphins in Unison. ERIC VANDERZEE. This metal sculpture was installed in 1989 for the opening of the Eaton Centre, now Metropolis at Metrotown. Untitled. ALAN STOREY. This aluminum and concrete sculpture is on the corner of Nelson Avenue and Bennett Street. Bloom. JILL ANHOLT. Inspired by the opening of Lotus flowers, these aluminum sculptures are located on Nelson Ave. south of Bennett St. Unfold. JILL ANHOLT. Unfold references the elongated twists and turns of Lucky Bamboo–its vivid colour and its essence of energy and growth. Located on Nelson Ave. south of Bennett St. Lanterns at the Park. IE CREATIVE. The five lanterns comprise a “fairy ring” ensemble of stainless steel mushrooms. Located on Nelson Ave. south of Bennett St. Water Spheres. TONY BLOOM. These nine aluminum spheres represent planets within a central axial pool in a water reclamation park. Located on the northeast corner of Royal Oak and Dover. WHY WALK?
