2014–2018 Forecast
Fig.2Source: HPE/SOGETI, World Quality Report 2014-2015
• Worldwide Discrete (Standalone) Enterprise Application Testing Services market was $16.7B in 2013 with a constant15% annual growth, reaching ~$33.7B in 2018 according to IDC studies (Fig.1)
• Budget spend % per testing projects is continuously increasing (Fig.2)
• Tools (incl. licensing) + infrastructure are still the largest investments in testing organizations (Fig.3)

Market status quo

• Testing Centers of Excellence - TCoEs are still growing in adoption (Fig.1)
Market status quo
• Security is predominant as one of the main focus points for IT strategies (Fig.1)
• Manual testing still counts as the main challenge in app development (Fig.2)

Market status quo

• Security testing is split mostly between internal teams and outsourced ones, with some companies not even investing into it at all (Fig.1)
Market status quo - summary
• Digital transformation / business is here. One’s QA methodologies and tools need to cater for digital and cloud basedtechnologies, with a focus on business value as much as end-user experience.
• Test environments and test data management are playing a larger role in testing, as such user monitoring, analytics, virtualization (network, services, users, data etc.) cloud solutions etc. are all elements to consider and invest in.
• Applications are more fluid, delivered faster, which implies, leaner development testing. Agile will take even moreprecedence than before, consequently develop competencies and centralized capabilities.
• TCoEs are evolving from traditional constructs into more hybrid and agile models.
• More test automation + DevOps are required for faster, organized release to production and for bridging the gabbetween dev teams and operations (continuous integration).
• Since QA & testing budgets are experiencing an extraordinary increase, investing (more BUT smartly) in tools is thenext logical inherent step.
• With security counting as one of the most pressing concerns within IT, companies need to invest in proper enterprise ITsecurity governance frameworks and conduct more testing in this space.
• Investments in up-skilling and flexible & scalable tools adoption on one side, as well as change management on theother are the crucial elements in winning the testing ‘battle’.
• With commoditization of testing, one needs to invest into more creative cost efficient TaaS models, more agile servicebased, output driven models, cross-shared and cross-skilled resources vs. legacy, traditional waterfall processes, dedicated resources and restrictive tools licensing models.
