Hypervisor for Data

Much like a hypervisor shares physical server resources to create virtual

machines, the Delphix Virtual Data Platform shares data blocks to create

virtual databases, virtual application instances, and virtual file sets. Block

sharing enables Delphix to consolidate redundant storage, eliminating

90% of database, application, and file storage on average. Delphix is

storage-neutral, operating on any storage array and across arrays from

different vendors. For example, Delphix can virtualize a database running

on legacy disk storage from NetApp, and provision a virtual copy to flash

storage from Pure Storage in a private cloud.

Virtualize Everything

Delphix uses patented techniques to create unlimited virtual copies of

application stacks including binaries, databases, and other files. Delphix

also continuously collects and synthesizes change data, enabling

application development teams to re-create application environments

from any point in time, in minutes. Delphix clears the path to DevOps and

Agile Development methodology by enabling every developer to refresh,

bookmark, branch, and share application data on-demand and as a

self-service:

• Databases—Delphix virtual databases look and act like full physical

copies, but take up a fraction of the space of a physical copy, can

be created in minutes, can be branched for A/B testing, and can be

refreshed or reset on demand.

• Applications—Delphix virtual application instances enable a project

team to stand up an entire enterprise application, e.g. an entire

Oracle EBS instance (binaries, configuration data, etc.), along with its

associated databases, very quickly, wherever it’s needed. Delphix users

can write their own application virtualization modules, or can use pre-

existing modules from Delphix or Delphix partners.

• Files—Delphix virtual file systems are point-in-time copies of entire file systems, virtualized and provisioned to

remote servers, in minutes and in a fraction of the space required by physical file systems.

TimeFlow

Delphix records and integrates all changes from source systems into a live collection of snapshots that are used

to create database and application copies for project teams. TimeFlow enables users to create copies as of

any point in time; e.g. create a copy of the CRM database as of now, as of last week, as of the last release, etc.

TimeFlow eliminates the need to use large and cumbersome tape or disk backups to create dev/test copies.

Self-Service

An intuitive GUI enables developers and testers to manage their own applications and database copies, without

compromising infrastructure control for IT operations teams. With Delphix in place, application project team

members can refresh, rollback, branch, and share their copies, without waiting for support tickets to move

through lengthy approval cycles.

Agile Data Masking

In many regulated industries, firms are required to mask (i.e. scramble) sensitive customer or patient data, as

well as audit access to sensitive data. Ensuring that all developers, QA engineers, support staff, etc. are only

accessing masked database copies is very difficult, and the complexity of creating and distributing masked

database copies causes many masking initiatives to fail. Delphix creates easily auditable secure database copies

that can be created, tracked, or deleted on demand. As a result, organizations can ensure data security and

compliance across on-premise, cloud-based, or outsourced IT models and architectures.

“Forever Full” Data Backup and Recovery

Since Delphix captures change blocks on an ongoing basis, it eliminates

the need for full database or application backups—Delphix is “forever

full” and can always create a full copy as of any point in time, in minutes.

Unlike traditional database backups, Delphix delivers industry-leading

RTO and RPO while reducing overhead on production systems.

Live Analytics

Data warehouses and marts have grown to a point that it is often difficult

to load, refresh, or copy them within a desired time window. Delphix-

powered virtual marts and warehouses can be refreshed in minutes, and

can be copied quickly, easily, and cost-effectively, enabling analysts to

make better decisions. A common use for Delphix instant analytics is

within a quarterly financial close, where data is extracted, integrated,

and loaded into global reporting systems. Delphix can reduce the time to

eliminate data errors up to 75%.

Cross-Platform Provisioning

Converting legacy Unix databases to x86 Linux, often for cloud

migration, is a long, manual, error-prone process that takes months per

database. Delphix automates this process, managing endian conversion

and eliminating 50-75% of the time required to virtualize Unix-based

databases and provision to x86 virtual machines.

Enterprise and Cloud Ready

Databases often contain confidential information, so security and integrity are key considerations for most

organizations. With fully integrated roles, privileges, and authentication, Delphix properly safeguards and

enforces security inheritance from physical databases. Delphix software ensures end-to-end integrity checking—

from database inputs all the way to disk storage. Furthermore, the architecture maintains coherence and

consistency for each and every virtual copy, so changes or deletions cannot accidentally propagate across

them. Delphix can be easily replicated for high availability, offsite development, or disaster recovery. In addition,

Delphix also supports standard VM ready backup solutions.
