Our OrganizationAnnex Chess Club is a non-profit organiza-tion, founded in October 2010. Our Club is governed by a set of by-laws and a member-elected Board of Directors.
Our MissionTo operate a community-based chess club in the heart of downtown Toronto, and to teach and promote chess through classes, lectures, tournaments and other related events.

Our LocationAnnex Chess Club meets in the Great Hall at 918 Bathurst Street. This air-conditioned hall, with its 30-foot cathedral ceiling, is a beautiful venue for playing chess and a popular chess tournament site for Toronto.
Chess Institute of Canada (CIC)CIC, a separate non-profit organization, is a supporter and friend of Annex Chess Club. CIC’s specific mission is to improve the lives of children by using chess as a vehicle to cultivate the development of essential life skills.

Regular Tournaments One round each Monday night, run from 7:30 to 10:30 pm.
Tournament Time Control (90’ + 30”)Each player has 90 minutes of core time to complete the game, with an extra 30-second increment after each move.
Swiss Pairing SystemEach round, players face an opponent with the same cumulative score in the tourna-ment.
Rated GamesThrough the Club’s affiliation with Canada’s chess governing body, The Chess Federation of Cananda (CFC), play-ers receive and maintain a national chess rating.
ByesA player may request via e-mail, a half-point bye for a round (only two per tourna-ment, except the last round), if unable to attend.
Chess Lectures We often schedule lectures by expert play-ers on chess history, strategy and tactics, at 6:50 pm before the tournament round starts.
Casual ChessMembers are welcome to play friendly games before and after – or instead of – the regular tournament game.
MembershipAnnual memberships are available for casual or tournament play. Family, junior and senior discounts are available.
Non-members can play casually or in tour-naments by paying a drop-in fee.
What else?Speed and rapid chess tournaments, simul-taneous chess exhibitions, and other events are scheduled throughout the year.

Casual Chess Pick-up games. All ages and playing strength.
Club Chess Tournaments CFC-rated slow games. FIDE-rated slow games.
Kids’ Chess Club Rated tournaments every week. Analysis and supervision.
Chess Classes Kids and adult classes from beginner to advanced. Instructors include Master and Expert level players.
