Daily Schedule

• AOC students attend a full day of high school and college classes
• AOC classes meet from 7:45am to 2:55pm
• COC classes are mostly held from 8:00am to 9:00pm
• Your schedule is determined by your grade, your high school classesand your college classes
• Prepare to be flexible as to when classes are held
• Effectively use unstructured/unscheduled time
• Excellent attendance is vital to your success in all classes

30 units = approximately one year of college coursework

AOC Honors Program
“Your Future Today”
• AOC Honors is offered to grades 10-12
• There are no 9th grade honors courses
• Participation in AOC Honors determined by an entrance exam open to all students
• AOC Honors English, science, and social studies classes approved by UC/CSU for weighted credit on freshman application
• College level English, math, science, foreign language and specific fine arts and social/behavioral sciences receive weighted credit on high school transcript
• No Advanced Placement classes

Academic Content • Biology: emphasis on the interactions between living systems (Next Generation Science Standards)• English: research, essay writing, academic vocabulary, Common Core Integration• Human Geography: study the distribution and effects of the human population on our planet
(Learn how to use and interpret maps, GIS, and satellite images through project based activities.)
Academic Skills • Note taking, test taking and test preparation, annotating• Academic integrity and behavior• COC Science laboratory techniques (the Biology class often meets in a COC lab classroom)
Strategies for Success (this is the main emphasis of the 9th Grade Seminar class)• Time management, organization, collaborative groups • COC etiquette and lingo (how to communicate with instructors and navigate the college environment)• Goal setting, identifying students' strengths and how to capitalize on them as they study

• National Blue Ribbon, Exemplary High Performing School, 2015
• 1st Year (2014-2015) of CA Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) results: outperformed all district high schools in all categories.
• 100% graduation rate
• US News & World Report Best High School Bronze Medalist 2010-present
• Most students complete 1 year of college coursework by graduation
• 15-20% complete an Associate of Arts or Science degree
• In Fall 2014, the success rate (earning C or higher) in COC classes was 18 percentage points higher (95% total) than other concurrently enrolled high school students and 24 percentage points higher than other COC students in the same classes. For all but 2 of the last 15 years, AOC students have maintained the highest success rates of any population attending COC.

Costs of Attending AOC/COC
“Your Future Today”
•COC Tuition is FREE!
• Waived for high school students with California residency
• Non-CA residents qualify to receive waiver if:
• Must qualify for AB 540
• Must attend CA high school for a total of three years
•COC Registration fees due each semester (2015-16 fee rates)
• Health fee - $19
• Student Center Fee - $1 per college unit ($10 max)
• Student Representation Fee - $1
• Student Support Fee - $15
•COC Parking fee per semester (optional) - $50
•College Textbooks—student purchases
• New/Used/rental/e-books
• Some books available in AOC college textbook lending library
•AOC is a public school and there is no cost to attend
• High school textbooks are provided
The 9th Grade Application Process

Attend an informational meeting (you’re done!)
Applicant submits online application by Friday, February 26th at 3pm**The application opens 2/4, at 9am.**
All applicants, including siblings, must meet admission eligibility requirements that include consistently good grades, positive attendance, clear discipline record, and strong recommendations (if requested).
AOC must have the ability to review all documents for applicants with a 504 Plan or an IEP to determine if placement is appropriate and considered the least restrictive environment.

The 9th Grade Application Process

Hart District Sibling Policy at AOC• Siblings are not automatically admitted to AOC• Siblings of current 9th, 10th, 11th graders are given priority consideration for admission• Incoming 9th grade sibling applicants who qualify for lottery are admitted PRIOR to lottery• Incoming 9th grade twin applicants will have two lottery entries, each with both names to ensure
twins are selected together• Current 9th, 10th, 11th grade sibling applicants will be interviewed• Current 9th, 10th, 11th grade sibling applicants who qualify will be admitted
Lottery eligibility letters mailed home until March 7th
• Letters will be mailed home as applicants become eligible, therefore some applicants will receive letters weeks before others
Lottery March 16th
• Results will be recorded and posted on AOC website by 5pm
ALL Acceptance of admission offer response emails as well as residency documentation for non-Hart District students due Friday, April 1st by 3pm
If accepted, attend AOC/COC Mandatory Orientation on Tuesday, May 17th
at 6:00-8:00pm in UCEN 258
Application instructions will be available outside after the presentation from an AOC student.
