Demand notes for the 2016 subscrip耀�ons have been sent to Fellows inDecember 2015. Fellows who have not se耀�led their subscrip耀�on before 30June should have received a demand note for subscrip耀�on and surcharge.Please se耀�le as soon as possible.

Reminder:

1. All payments must be received by the Academy before 30 September.According to Bylaw 6.4: If a member's fee or any other moneys due by a member to the Academy is notreceived by the Academy within 9 months a退�er such payment falls due, despitetwo wri耀�en reminders by the Academy to pay, the member shall automa耀�callyforfeit his membership.

2. It is Council's policy that late subscrip耀�ons received by the Academy a退�er 30June will be subject to a surcharge of 5% on the subscrip耀�on amount.

3. For Fellows who have authorized payment via bank transfer / credit card,payments will be deducted from their bank accounts or credit cardautoma耀�cally.

4. Fellows aged over 70, or have reached 70 before the beginning of the nextsubscrip耀�on year, do not need to pay any subscrip耀�on and will not receive adebit note.

CME/CPD Reminder

The current CME/CPD cycle for Academy Fellows will end on 31 December2016. All Fellows who are on the Specialist Register (SR) of the Medical Councilor Dental Council will need to fulfil the requirements of the Academy to remainon the SR. Fellows, except those exempted for CME/CPD due to re耀�rement, arealso required to fulfil the requirements to maintain the Academy Fellowship.Fellows are reminded to make sure they will obtain the required number ofCME/CPD points before the end of this year, and to catch up if the points theyhave obtained so far falls behind greatly of the requirements.

Fellows may wish to note that the CMECPD Principles & Guidelines for the nextcycle 2017 ‐ 19 will remain unchanged i.e. no more than 75 points can beawarded for passive par耀�cipa耀�on in a 3‐year cycle. Fellows are strongly advisedto maintain a balanced CMECPD profile with a mix of different ac耀�vi耀�es, inorder to capture the full benefit of different types of CMECPD ac耀�vi耀�es.

The Academy has been using Fellows' email addresses recorded in theAcademy register for communica耀�ons but occasionally received bounce‐backmessages mostly with the reason of invalid email address or mail box overquota.

As email is a widely used and highly effec耀�ve tool for communica耀�on, theAcademy would appreciate it if Fellow can provide a valid and updated emailaddress for the Academy register.  It is also a key element for Fellow to accesshis/her personal and CME/CPD profile online at iCMECPD.

Council Members of the 3 academies met at the Joint Council Mee耀�ng toupdate each other on the latest developments of medical trainings. A MOU onthe organiza耀�on of AMM‐AMS‐HKAM Tripar耀�te Congress was renewed a退�erthe mee耀�ng. Several College Presidents were conferred Honorary Fellowshipsby AMM during its convoca耀�on.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Ins耀�tute (HKJCDPRI)Research Grant 2016 is now open for applica耀�on. Priority of the Research Grant in2016 would be given to research project(s) that related to knowledge andinforma耀�on management for disaster preparedness and response in Hong Kong,including disaster risk communica耀�on and self‐reliance. Other research related todisaster preparedness and response in Hong Kong are also welcome to apply. Grantsup to HKD500,000 are available depending on the scope of the project.

Training Forum organised by the Chinese Medical Doctor Associa耀�on(CMDA), 26‐28 August 2016

The President, Vice‐President (Educa耀�on and Examina耀�ons) and HonorarySecretary a耀�ended the Residents Training Forum organised by the ChineseMedical Doctor Associa耀�on in Beijing. Vice‐President (Educa耀�on andExamina耀�ons) and Honorary Secretary made presenta耀�ons on the topics of"The Planning & Applica耀�on of Clinical Training" and "The Specialist TrainingSystem in Hong Kong" respec耀�vely. They also par耀�cipated in a discussion forumwith other overseas guests and exchanged experiences in specialist training.

from App Store/Google Play) and install it in their smartphone with opera耀�ngsystem in iOS (7.1 or above) or Android (3.0 or above).

ANNOUNCEMENT

Since its inaugural issue in 1995, the Hong Kong Medical Journal (HKMJ) hasbeen mailed to all HKAM Fellows as part of their membership benefit. TheHKMJ website also provides free full‐text archives of all ar耀�cles, with advancedsearch features and video room for educa耀�onal purposes. Last year, the journalwebsite was redesigned and op耀�mised for a variety of screen sizes rangingfrom smartphones, netbooks and tablets, to laptops and desktop screens; thisoffers high readability of website content.

Over the last few years, there have been repeated sugges耀�ons from Fellows toreduce the number of paper copies of HKMJ. Although the cost of editorialproduc耀�on will not change, the environmental impact will be reduced andfinancial savings in prin耀�ng and mailing costs will be large.

This sugges耀�on was brought to the HKAM Council for discussion recently and itwas resolved that an OPT‐IN approach would be adopted.

Comprehensive Simula耀�on Educa耀�on Course, 5‐6 & 12‐13 November2016

The Comprehensive Simula耀�on Educator Course (CSEC) aims to provide theessen耀�al knowledge, and develop learners' competence, in planning asimula耀�on‐based educa耀�on ac耀�vity, scenario development, direc耀�on,execu耀�on and debriefing methods. This course will enable the par耀�cipants tohave an understanding of the basic concepts of learner‐centred educa耀�on. 

Different types of simulators and simula耀�on techniques, and their respec耀�veapplica耀�ons will be covered to provide the par耀�cipants with the resources fortheir teaching purposes. At the end of the course, the par耀�cipants will have thebasic knowledge and skill to plan and run a simula耀�on‐based training course,develop the necessary training material, direct a scenario and debrief thelearners on the learning objec耀�ves. The course also intends to cul耀�vate interestand passion in simula耀�on‐based educa耀�on, and learners are provided withdifferent methods to maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills insimula耀�on‐based educa耀�on.
