TEACHERS ATTEND IPAD CONVENTION Learning to leverage new technology from a Christ-centered view to the advantage of our students is a constant challenge and our continued commitment at HPCA. We sent eight elementary and middle school teachers to the “Teaching & Learning with iPad” conference in Raleigh. The workshops ranged from managing iPads in the classroom to using iPads in every subject area. Teachers and students demonstrated the iPad as a tool for learning more about geography, social studies, and developing critical thinking with "Mystery Skype." Some of the apps demonstrated can help middle school

students with vocabulary and grammar, and others allow students to creatively give book reports through book trailers made in iMovie. Math and science tools can help students understand basics and explore areas of interest. Approximately 15 different workshops were attended, and our teachers were able to interact directly with veteran users.

PRESCHOOL HPCA Preschool completed their cookie dough fundraiser and the overall winner was Kennedi Hayes. Preschool celebrated fall with our Harvest Day activites, such as sack races, pumpkin toss, and alphabet relay. Students came dressed as farmers, scarecrows, and farm animals. See Harvest Day photo gallery. Our focus of study this month has been on Thanksgiving and thankful hearts. We celebrated Thanksgiving with feasts and

programs by each individual class.

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION HPCA Senior, Stephanie Clark, was awarded the “Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award,” being one of only seven students from the area's high schools selected by DAR. The award recognizes high school seniors who demonstrate the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and

communities. Pictured is Head of School Keith Curlee, mom Janet Clark, Stephanie Clark, dad Richard Clark, and College and Career Counselor Yuvonda Hendricks.
