LIM College combines a strong foundation in the liberal arts with an in-depth education in business and the fashion industry. You’ll graduate with the analytical skills and broad knowledge base you need to succeed—in many aspects of the fashion business.

We offer five majors leading to a Bachelor’s Degree, as well as Associate Degree programs and Master of Professional Studies (MPS) graduate programs. No matter which program you choose, you’ll learn in small classes with accessible professors who bring their own industry experience into the classroom.

You’ll find plenty of opportunities to apply what you’re learning in the real world. Through field trips, lectures, and internships with companies that might include Barneys New York, Gucci, and MTV Networks, you’ll make valuable connections.

A GLOBAL EDUCATION

Fashion spans the globe— and so do our students’ study-abroad experiences. Each year, approximately 70 LIM College students study abroad. Some spend a semester at places such as the University of Westminster in London, the London College of Fashion, the Paris School of Business, Suffolk University Madrid, the American University of Rome, and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia.

LIM College also offers two-week summer programs in China and Mod’ Art International in Paris. In January, our students also have the option to take a Cross-Cultural Analysis field trip to cities all across Europe.

what it takes to succeed in the business—and who bring their expertise into the classroom. In a fast-changing industry, you’ll get an up-to-the-minute education.

A FOUNDATION IN THE LIBERAL ARTS

No matter which major you choose at LIM College, your education will be built on a strong foundation in the liberal arts. As you explore subjects like History of Art, Psychology, Creative Writing, and Cross-Cultural Communication, you’ll learn to look beneath the surface, form opinions, and communicate effectively.

You’ll also gain a global perspective. Courses like International Retailing and Global Management introduce you to international business practices, while classes in Chinese, French, Italian, and Spanish broaden your horizons. Want to put your international perspective to use? Our study-

Fashion Merchandising combines computer- aided design, product development, textiles, manufacturing,

and retailing, while keeping an eye on the ultimate prize, the consumer. Each course in the Fashion Merchandising Department focuses on the target market.

As a Fashion Merchandising student, you’ll learn how to identify trends in the fashion industry and develop lines of merchandise for wholesale and retail companies. Those graduating with a BBA or BPS in Fashion Merchandising choose from three tracks: Apparel and Accessories; Buying, Planning, and Retail; and Home Fashions. During your senior year, you’ll gain real-world knowledge as you participate in a capstone project. The Fashion Merchandising capstone project requires the application, analysis, and synthesis of the fashion curriculum you’ve learned to create and analyze the assortment planning process in a fashion business.

FASHION MERCHANDISING MAJOR

The International Business major introduces you, literally, to the world of fashion—from global markets to

economies, politics to cultures. You’ll gain a clear understanding of what it takes to think, plan, and conduct business on a global stage. You’ll be prepared to succeed wherever your career takes you in the world.

LIM College believes wholeheartedly that you learn best by doing. That’s why we require experiential education, which means you’ll complete at least one internship at a global organization, such as Bloomsbury Publishing, Gucci, Li & Fung, Macy’s, Oxford Industries, PVH, or SAKS.

The International Business major also incorporates liberal arts courses that will give you the skills employers—here in the U.S. and abroad—are looking for, including critical thinking, written and oral communication, and mathematical and scientific reasoning.

As an International Business major, you’ll also be strongly encouraged to pursue a semester abroad—in Europe, Asia, or Australia—through one of LIM College’s foreign partner institutions. All of your experiences at LIM College will lead you to a wealth of career options, no matter where you go in the world.

MANAGEMENT MAJOR

The Management major gives you a solid foundation in the skills you need to lead effective teams and communicate

with customers, merchants, designers, and manufacturers. You’ll learn to manage and effectively use resources. You’ll master the latest technologies, learn about corporate structures, and learn to think strategically. With a tailored degree program, you can focus on Retail and Merchandise Management or Entrepreneurship and Venture Development, where you will learn how to take a project from concept to launch—for yourself or within a larger organization.

You’ll gain professional experience too. You’ll complete internships, meet industry professionals, and complete a faculty-guided business planning project. During your senior year, for example, acting in the role of a consultant, you’ll develop and present a comprehensive business plan for a local company or for an organization of your design.

During your senior year, your capstone project will provide you with the opportunity to utilize the skills and knowledge that you have gained by developing and presenting a comprehensive business plan for a local company or organization of your design.

VISUAL MERCHANDISING MAJOR

Questions like these are at the heart of visual merchandising. Professionals in this dynamic field

create compelling merchandise presentations and memorable branded environments to attract customers and provide them with rewarding shopping experiences.

As a Visual Merchandising major, you’ll learn the principles, philosophies, and technologies of visual merchandising. In class, you’ll gain an understanding of design elements such as color, composition, and balance, while using mannequins, props, and the latest software to experiment with design and technique. Outside class, you’ll explore real-world design and merchandising practices throughout Manhattan.

The Visual Merchandising capstone project requires students to assess core competencies relative to the design and development of a full-line, branded retail environment. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to launch an exciting career as a display designer, visual merchandising associate, or consultant in any area of the retail environment.

Ultimately, marketing is about understanding customer needs, translating those needs into creative

solutions that satisfy the customer, and communicating those solutions in a way that the customer can appreciate. The Marketing major teaches you how consumers think, how to identify and understand customer desires, and how to deliver customer-pleasing solutions in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.

At LIM College, you’ll take this basic understanding of marketing a step further by focusing on fashion, one of the world’s most dynamic, marketing-intensive industries. Our brand-focused program has an international perspective that provides essential knowledge and skills. By choosing a major focus in Brand Management, Marketing Communications, or Global Marketing, you will be prepared for professional success in a wide range of fashion-related careers and other professional organizations.

Graduating marketing students will receive hands-on experience by completing their capstone projects through replicating a virtual business environment, developing comprehensive marketing plans, and managing their implementation through a simulated two-year business cycle.
