CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACADEMY PINELLAS PARK HIGH SCHOOL PINELLAS PARK HIGH SCHOOL Criminal Justice Academy POINTS OF PRIDE Designated as a Model Academy by the National Career Academy Coalition Designated as an Academy of Distinction Graduation Rate of 100% Placed 1st in the Nation for Crime Scene Investigation and 6th in the Nation for Criminal Justice at the SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky. Numerous Valedictorians and Salutatorians have graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy 3 National Merit Scholars and a Barnes Scholar Mock Trial Professionalism and Best Attorney Award Winners. The Mock Trial team also finished in the top 5 at the State Competition and won first overall at the Moot Court Competition sponsored by the Florida Law Related Education Association competition. Students and staff were key in the passing of Operation 10-24 which created a state license plate dedicated to those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Opportunities for Dual Enrollment credit at SPC One 1st place win and four 2nd place wins for the Debate Team at the Clearwater Bar Association’s Great Debate. TRANSPORTATION Arterial bus transportation (buses that operate on main roads with a limited number of stops) is provided to students who live more than two miles from the school. Magnet bus stop locations may require that parents drive their children to and from the stop. In addition, students in this program participate in elective courses which may include technology, world language, or other honors and AP level academic electives. Students who typically do well in this program earn mostly As and Bs on their report cards, maintaining a 2.5 average and earn a score of 325 or higher on their FSA mathematics and language arts assessments. Students new to Pinellas County Schools who do not have an FSA score, can look at their standardized test scores from their previous school to determine if they have at least a 4 stanine or higher in both reading/language arts and mathematics. Once enrolled in the program, students must attend all classes regularly, maintain a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0 in 9th grade, 2.3 in 10th grade and 2.5 in 11th and 12th grades as well as abide by the Code of Student Conduct. Falling below these expectations may result in placement on probation and/or dismissal from the program. Magnet programs focus on a certain theme withspecialized curriculum in areas such as arts,communication, science and technology, and giftedstudies. Some programs have eligibility requirements.Students living anywhere in the county may apply.

ABOUT USThe Criminal Justice Academy is a four-year high school magnet program with an emphasis on law education. The academystaff is committed to providing students with an outstanding high school education in all academic areas. Students gain anunderstanding of the American legal system and explore the wide range of career-related opportunities. Graduates of theacademy will be prepared to further their formal education in the college or university setting or to pursue immediate entryinto a chosen career or technical school, or for employment upon graduation from high school.

Academy students take at least five credits in CriminalJustice courses. Required coursework offers students anoverview in police operations, courts and corrections, civillaw and forensic science investigations. Additional

electives allow students to explore other avenues of lawand law enforcement. Students have opportunities to meetprofessionals working in legal fields through participationin field trips, Annual Law Day, internships and shadowing.

The academy also offers students the opportunity tointeract with professionals by hosting guest speakers andproviding hands-on skills training in preparation for statecompetitions.
