Note 1. English language tests should normally have been taken within 12 months of the commencement

date. The marginal rules below nominate exceptions to this rule.

Note 2. The English language requirements may be satisfied by successful completion of full-time

secondary or tertiary studies, or equivalent qualification, with a duration of at least one year, from

an approved institution.

Note 3. From 2017 STD+ will require 5.5 in writing, STD 6.0 overall with similar rises in other tests such as

TOEFL.

Marginal Rules (Out of date English Results)

UFS will accept all IELTS results that expires within 1-month of the program start date (i.e. 13 months old).

If the result is 0.5 higher than the overall program requirement, including the writing requirement, then UFS will accept a result taken within 18 months of the program start date (i.e. 6 months after 1-year expiry date).

If the result is 1.0 higher than the overall program requirement, including the writing requirement, then UFS will accept a result taken within 24 months of the program start date (i.e. 12 months after 1-year expiry date).

If the result is over 1.5 higher than the overall program requirement, including the writing requirement, then UFS will accept the result regardless of when the English qualification/test was taken.

UNSW FOUNDATION STUDIES ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

UFS Academic Entry Requirements Printed: May-17

Academic Entry Requirements The academic entry requirements in this document are a guide to the academic profile required of a student to be successful in the nominated UNSW Foundation Studies Program. Where possible, marginal requirements have been nominated within which a marginal offer may be made on the basis of performance in individual subjects relevant to a Stream of study. Students who submit two matriculation qualifications

Where two matriculation qualifications are submitted (e.g. Australian HSC and SATs), the more recent of the two qualifications should be used to determine the appropriate Stream of study. Where a recognised qualification is submitted along with more recent school-based results – the recognised qualification may take precedence. However, the more recent school-based results may advise on marginal applicants. Actuarial Students

Students wishing to undertake the UFS Actuarial stream must meet the Science mathematics requirement. General Requirements

A Curtin Diploma is NOT equivalent to a matriculation qualification and cannot be used for access to Transition.

No marginal offers for IB students with Maths SL or Mathematical Studies.

No marginal offers for students with the HKDSE beyond what is listed. The Extended Program from November 2017 There are specific entry requirements for the Extended Program for the following countries and internationally recognised curricula.

Cambodia Myanmar International Baccalaureate China Oman British O Levels

Hong Kong Singapore SAT Indonesia Sth Korea Macau Taiwan Malaysia Thailand

Mongolia Vietnam Applicants with other qualifications should be referred to the Assistant/Academic Director.

Secondary education consists of 2 stages - intermediate and secondary. Secondary education is 3 years following intermediate school. It covers Grades 10-12,for students aged 15-18.

Qualification

The final qualification is the Baccalauréat Libanais (Lebanese Baccalaureate, shahaadat al-bakaalouriya al-lubnaaniya l’il-ta'liim al-thaanawi). Third year students take the state Baccalauréat exams, and the Baccalauréat is awarded to successful students in one of the specialisations.

The Baccalauréat Libanais entitles students to enter higher education.

Grading System Most schools use the French 20-point grading scale, with 10 as the minimum passing score. A
