Southern Illinois University Carbondale Civil Service Council ACADEMIC CALENDAR COMMITTEE REPORT Wednesday, February 13, 2018 The meeting convened at 11:00 am. Introduction of Committee Members T. Workman took roll call. (James Mathias no longer represents the College of Engineering and Joshua Bowens have replaced Jared Stern as Undergraduate Student Government representative.) University Events & Protocol SIU 150 th Anniversary (Vanessa Sneed) Vanessa reported that the kick off for SIU 250 would be on March 1 (due to Spring Break beginning on the actual date of March 9, 2019). This celebration will run through May 2020 commencement exercises. There will be on campus activities as well as events across the country and the globe for our alumnae. John Jackson is editing the book the University is preparing for SIU 150. They are highlighting the traditions held around campus focusing on the last 50 years. If you or your departments have stories or pictures to share for possible entry into the book, share these with John Jackson. There will also be a large social media presence. The campus will have something special set up for March 9, 2019. There is no website set up for SIU 150 yet but there will be one to announce events, activities, etc. The AOPA (a non-commercial pilotsorganization) is holding a big event at our SIU airport on October 5 & 6, 2018. They will need volunteers from October 3 rd through the 6 th to help this run smoothly. Review of Calendars A discussion and vote was held on the two options for Academic Calendar years 2020-2021 and 2021- 2022. (See attached spreadsheets.) The Committee unanimously agreed to forward Option 2 to Dr. DiLalla for review and presentation to the Board of Trustees for approval. Committee: Tamara asked if the constituency representatives could provide the length of their terms to her. Tamara would like to see 2-year terms for the Constituency representatives. Dr. Keefer suggested that these be staggered to avoid a large turn-around at one time. (Joan looked this up for CS Council 2 year terms and Joan began August 2017 so my term will end August 2019.) The function areas representatives remain the same until the areas make a change. Introduction of Committee Members
