MANTA ACTIVO PROGRAM

This weekly individual-focused program consists of 30-35 hours combining Spanish classes with daily outdoors activities (visits within and outside of the city). This program offers the students the opportunity to practice Spanish learned in class through several excursions with their teacher.

MEDICAL SPANISH

We believe it is extremely important not only to learn Medical Spanish in a Spanish-speaking country but also to practice Spanish in a professional environment. Both concerns will help reinforce the student’s learning, and also enhance the effectiveness of his/her new knowledge.

Options:1. Learn Medical Spanish and rotation in a local hospital: half-day Spanish lessons and half day observational rotations for students and professionals in the medical field. 4 to 12 weeks Spanish Course focused particularly on medical vocabulary.

Students participate in periodic rotations in a local hospital / clinic (Clinica de la Fae, Hospital del IESS, Hospital Rodriguez Zambrano) in Manta accompanied by a medical resident.

2. Learn Medical Spanish and volunteering at Reneup (Centro de Rehabilitacion Neurologica Pediatrica): The courses last a minimum of 4 weeks, and a maximum of 12 weeks. Students learn Medical Spanish in the morning and in the afternoon practice it as they volunteer at “RENEUP” a nationally recognized institution dedicated to the prevention and alleviation of infantile development disorders as well as neurological cognitive and sensory disorders.

HOW TO ARRIVE

FLIGHTS TO ECUADOR

FROM GUAYAQUIL

We offer private Shuttle Service from the Airport in Guayaquil direct to Manta: $ 100 usd

Students arriving to Ecuador through Guayaquil can also travel on their own from Guayaquil to Manta by bus. There are several bus companies such as Reina del Camino, Coactur, Carlos Alberto Aray. We can provide pick-up service at the bus station in Manta for those students. Students need to call before leaving from Guayaquil to Manta (there are many public telephones at the bus station in Guayaquil) in order to arrange the pick-up service. Cell phone number for arranging pick up service in Manta: 099 184735.

FROM QUITO

There are two options to reach Manta from Quito:

By bus: (9 hours, $ 9 USD) We can pick up the student at the bus station in Manta and bring him/her to the host family/apartment. We suggest taking a bus from “Flota Imbabura” Bus Company, who runs several times a day everyday from Quito to Manta at 11.30 am. The Flota Imbabura Bus Station in Quito is located at the following crossroads: Manuel Larrea and Portoviejo Streets.

By plane: (30 minutes, $ 68) We can book a flight ticket for the student from Quito to Manta. If he/she wishes, we can also advance the price of the ticket and he/she can repay us on the first day of school in Manta. We can also pick up the student at the airport in Manta and bring him/her at the host family/apartment too without any additional charge.

Airlines flying from Quito to Manta:Tame www.tame.com.ec (one flight per day)Icaro airlines www.icaro.aero (three flights per day)Aerogal www.aerogal.com.ec (one flight per day)

Bus companies (from Quito to Manta):Reina del Camino (executive service): bus Quito-Manta every hourFlota Imbabura: bus Quito-Manta (runs several times a day)Panamerica: bus Quito-Manta (runs several times a day)

EMERGENCY PLAN FOR PICKUP SERVICE

In the unlikely event the student’s pick-up service does not arrive, please give to costumers the following back-up cell number (09) 9184-735. The school is quite reliable with this service, but wise travelers always have a backup plan. A school representative will be holding a school sign with the student’s name at the airports in Guayaquil or Manta, or at the bus station in Manta. (If the student arrives and doesn’t see someone from the Surpacifico holding a board with the name on, please wait for 20 minutes. The airports in Guayaquil and Manta, and the bus station in Manta are very small and therefore it should be easy for the student to see if someone is looking for them)

VISA REQUIREMENTS

VISAS

There are two general categories of visas: resident (sometimes known as immigrant) and non-resident. Within each of these broad categories are several types of specific visas. Please look below for the type of visa that suits your clients’ individual needs. This information was adapted from the Ecuadorian Embassy and Consulate General webpage. The information is subject to change and should be verified with the Ecuadorian Consulate in your home country.

NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS

Citizens of most countries do not require a visa to enter Ecuador for up to 90 days, with some notable exceptions. This “automatic” tourist visa is knows as the 12-X. If your client plans on staying longer that 90 days, working or immigrating to Ecuador, he/she will need one of the other types of visas outlined below.

• Visas for Non-Working Stays Up to 90 Days (Visa 12-X)

Ecuador welcomes tourists and travelers from every country. Citizens of the United States, Canada and most European countries traveling to Ecuador for tourism, business or to study do not require a visa unless they expect to stay in Ecuador for more than 90 days in one calendar year (that is, 90 days adding every entry in one year) or if they are drawing income from an Ecuadorian source.

Specific Requirements: • Valid passport for more than 6 months. • Return ticket (for air, land or sea travel). • Proof of economic means to support yourself during your stay in Ecuador (may be requested by Immigration

authorities upon arrival).

Nationals of the following countries need a visa to enter Ecuador for any reason and should approach the Consulate of Ecuador in their home country before traveling (list may change without notice): Algeria, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Lybia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine Authority, Panama, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tunisia, and Vietnam.

Foreigners traveling on a 12-X visa may not take employment in Ecuador. Visa 12-X status cannot be changed in Ecuador.

• Visas for Stays of More Than 90 DaysForeign nationals planning to stay in Ecuador for more than 90 days need to apply for a visa and must provide the following documents:

• Valid passport for more than 6 months. • Police certificate with criminal record of the State where he/she resides. • Medical certificate. • Return ticket (for air, land or sea travel). • Two photographs • Application form • Nationals of other countries applying for this type of visa in the United States must also present a valid

US visa/green card.

• Student VisaSpecific Requirements:

WHAT TO BRINGPACKING LIST AND GOOD THINGS TO KNOW

No matter where the student is going in Ecuador he/she should carry with him/her his/her passport or a copy of it. When traveling by bus, he/she should always carry the original document, as there are regular military and police roadblocks and people’s ID or passport may be checked. If the student is strolling around the town or the city where he/she’s staying, it is safer to pay 5 cents, make a copy of the passport and carry the copy. One usually may be requested to show such copy to use a credit card and in case the police are doing random spot checks.
