Academia CotopaxiTechnology Orientation
Twenty-first Century Toolsfor Twenty-first Century Learners
Jim Stratton, AC Director of Technology
August 2011
Technology Department
Mission• The Technology Department at Academia
Cotopaxi exists to provide support services for the various other areas of the school, ranging from hardware and software support through proposals of solutions to current and anticipated administrative and instructional challenges. In satisfying these needs, the Technology Department collaborates with departments to assess skills and needs and move toward effective solutions.
Technology Department Vision• Academia Cotopaxi Technology network infrastructure,
computers and educational technology resources meet or exceed those of the top international schools in Latin America. These technology resources are readily available to meet the needs of AC technology users—students, staff and parents.– All parts of the school have access to integrated
instructional and administrative services across interoperable high-speed networks.
– The school maintains appropriate network security, monitoring and filtering systems, and data backup and recovery plans.
– Network infrastructure hardware and end-user hardware are selected based upon established standards and that these standards meet the hardware and software requirements that are projected to serve the full obsolescence cycle.
– Infrastructure and technology resources are procured efficiently and in the best interest of the school.
– While the school is not necessarily an early adopter, administrative and instructional systems include appropriate emerging technologies.
– There are sufficient Technology Support personnel and Instructional Technology Specialist Teachers for ongoing, reliable network operations and instructional application of technology.
– Technology Support structures and systems are in place to address technical problems in a timely and efficient manner.
