FEATURESViaAqua®Acro-CalTMCalciumReactoroffersasimpleandconvenientsolutionformaintainingcalciumandalkalinityinyourreeftank.Aftertheinitialsetup,thecalciumreactorrequiresminimalmaintenance.Acalciumreactorisalmostanecessityfortanksheavilystockedwithstonycoral,wherecalciumandalkalinitydemandsarehighandwillpromotecorallinealgaegrowth.Acro-CalTMCalciumReactorprovidesasteadysupplyofcalciumbyusingCO2todissolvemediainthereactorand,thus,releasingcalciumintoyourwater.TheeffluentreleasedalsoactsasabuffertostabilizekH.

» It is your sole responsability to verify that the plug and receptacle are clean/free of moisture and salt build up at all times. The receptacle must be free of water, salt, calcium, and magnesium. Failure to do so may cause fire and/or loss of life.
» Do not plug into an extension cord or power strip.
» A drip loop must be used when plug into any electrical devices. A drip loop is part of the cord hanging below the receptacle.
» The national code requires all aquarium equipment to be plugged into a G.F.C.I. (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) electrical outlet. If you do not have a G.F.C.I., have an electrician install one prior to operating any aquarium components.

INSTALLATION:
1.Removethetopofthecalciumreactor.Rinsecalciumreactormedia.Placeaspongeoverthebottomsupportgrid.Addapproximately6”ofmediatothereactor.Whenaddingmediaverifythatmediadoesnotgodownthestandpipe.Placeanotherspongeoverthetopsupportgripabovethemedia.Screwlidbackontothecalciumreactorandverifythattheoutputisconnectedtothestandpipe.
2.Chooseoneofthefollowingwatersource(in):a)Gravity(unitinstalledbelowaquarium):Connectapieceofsiliconetubingtothegreenwaterintakevalve,insertthelineinsidetheaquarium2”belowthewatersurface.Thetubecanbesecureddirectlytotheoverflowboxusingaziptie.
b)Pressure:Chooseanexistingpressureline.Cutthelineandplumbinatee.Thebleedlinewillsupplywatertothecalciumreactor.Thebleedlinemusthaveavalveandreducedto3/16”barb.Withthevalveclosedconnectsthesiliconetubingfromthebleedlinedirectlytothegreenwaterintakevalve.
c)Supplypump:Useaseparatelowflowpump.Reducetheoutputofthepumpto3/16”barb.Connectsiliconetubingdirectlytothegreenwaterintakevalve.Dependingonthesizeofthepump,ableedlineisneededtokeepwaterflowingthroughthepumpatalltimes.
3.Effluentwater(out):Connectsiliconetubingtotheblueeffluentwatervalve.Securethelinetothebackoftheaquariumorsump.Thesiliconetubingmustbepositionedabovewaterlevelsothatyoucanseedropletsofwaterflowingfromthetube.
4.Fillbubblecounterthreequartersfullwithfreshwater.
5.CO2/Waterintake(in):AttachthesiliconetubingfromtheCO2regulatortoacheckvalvetothebubblecounterandtotheCO2greenwaterintakevalve.Seediagrambelow.
6.Air-vent-bleed:Attachsiliconetubingtothewhiteair-vent-bleedvalve.Securesiliconetubingtotheaquariumorsump.ThishelppreventsairandCO2frombuildingupatthetopofthecalciumreactor.
7.PrimingCalciumReactor:a)Gravity:Openthegreenwaterintakevalve.Disconnectthetubingfromthegreenwaterintakevalve,applysuctiontostartasiphonandreattachitbacktothegreenwaterintakevalve.Keepthewhiteair-vent-bleedvalveopenuntilthecalciumreactorisfullofwater.
b)Pressure:Openthegreenwaterintakevalve,thenthewhiteair-vent-bleedvalve(thisvalvemaynothavetobeopenedalltheway).Whenastrongpumpisused,thewhiteair-vent-bleedvalveonlyneedstobeopenaquarterturn.Closethewhiteair-vent-bleedvalvecompletelywhenthecalciumreactorisfullofwater.
c)Supplypump:Openthegreenwaterintakevalve.PlugthepumpintoaGFCIoutlet.Openthewhiteair-vent-bleedvalveuntilthecalciumreactorisfullofwater.

8.Oncethecalciumreactorisprimed,closewhiteair-vent-bleedvalve.Ifairisaccumulatedinthecalciumreactor,openwhiteair-vent-bleedvalveandleavethegreenwaterintakevalveopen.
9.Turnonthepumpandwaituntilthewaterclears.Opentheblueeffluentwatervalve.Adjustthevalvesothereisabrokenstreamofwaterdischargingfromthetube.Setthevalveasslowaspossiblewithoutbeingabletocountanydroplets.
10. TurnontheCO2controlvalve.AdjusttheCO2regulatortoproduce60bubblespermin.inthebubblecounterchamber.TheCO2inputisdirectlyrelatedtowaterflowrate:
• ToraisepHineffluentwaterincreasewaterflowordecreaseCO2• TolowerpHineffluentwaterdecreasewaterfloworincreaseCO211. ApHmeter/controllerisrecommendedtomaintainaproperlevelofpHintheaquarium.CollectasmallamountofeffluentwaterandtestitwithapHmeter.InitiallyadjusttheCO2atpH7.5.MonitorthepHintheaquariumandverifythatit’snotdroppingfast.IfpHdropsrapidly,decreaseCO2immediately.Atalltimes,thepHoftheaquariumshouldbeover8.0.TheidealpHoftheeffluentwatershouldbe6.5to7.5.IttakesapproximatelytwoweekstostabilizethepHoftheeffluentwatertotheideallevel.ContinueincreasingordecreasingtheCO2oreffluentwateramountasneededtoachieveoptimumpHlevel.
12. After24hours,measurethecarbonatehardnessoftheeffluentwater.Thehardnesslevelshouldbearound12-16dKH.Calciumlevelswillincreasebuttherateitincreasesdependonthetypeofmediaused.OceanpureTMCalciumReactorMediaisrecommended.
13. ContinueaddingthecalciummediauntiltheCalciumReactorstartstowork.

2.ForproperoperationoftheCalciumReactor,cleantheimpelleronceamonth.a)Removethetopofthecalciumreactor.b)Removetheimpellercover.c)Removetheimpellerandshaft.Withasmallbrushcleantheinsideoftheimpellerandimpellercover.
d)Iftheimpellerdoesnotspineasilyontheshaft,soaktheunitwith3:1vinegarsolution.Removeallcalciumresiduebetweentheshaftandrotor.
e)Reassemble.3.Replacecalciummediaevery3to6monthsdependingontheusage.4.CleantheViaAqua®Acro-CalTMCalciumReactorevery3to6monthsalongwiththewaterpump.
5.Makesureallpartsarefreeofdebrisandcalciumbuild-up.

IfyoustillhavequestionsabouthowtoinstallormaintaintheAcro-CalTMReactor,consultyourlocalfishstore.Continuemonitoringthewaterquality(calcium,alkalinity,effluentpH)toensureaproperlyworkingCalciumReactor.
