Abundance and Exponential GrowthBy Charlie Epstein 

Those  were  the  watch‐words  at  Singularity University’s  Exponential  Technologies  Executive Program;  a  two‐day  conference  I  attended  last month  at  NASA  Research  Park  in  Silicon  Valley, California.  Peter Diamandis, Author of Abundance: The Future is Better  than You Think and Ray Kurzweil, Author of How to Create a Mind lead the two‐day intensive on  topics  ranging  from  Bio  Technology breakthroughs in Science and Health (imagine in 20 years  you  will  be  able  to  replace  every  organ  in your  body  via  3‐D  printing machine)  to  privately funded  space  exploration  to  the Moon, Mars  and even asteroids.   Among his many accomplishments, Peter is an M.D. from Harvard and has his Engineering Degree from MIT. He spent his childhood dreaming of going up into  space. As he grew older, he  realized  this was not  going  to happen, mainly because  government regulations  precluded  any  citizen  from  going  up into space. Undaunted, he created the $10 Million Dollar  X‐Prize,  to  incentivize  private  industries  to build  a  spacecraft  and  launch  into  sub‐orbital space.  The  prize  was  later  re‐named  the  Anisar‐Xprize, after the husband and wife who put up the bulk of the $10 Million dollar prize.  In 2004,  in the Mojave  Desert,  Paul  Allen's  (of  MicroSoft  fame) space team  launched successfully, and history was made!    Want  to  make  the  journey  today?  No problem.  Richard  Branson's  Virgin  Galactic, www.virgingalactic.com,   still  has  seats  available  at $200,000 a pop!  

Ray,  who  was  just  hired  as  Google's  head  of Artificial  Intelligence,  shared with  the  50  of  us  in attendance,  the  rapid  exponential  growth  that  is occurring  in  technology  and  the  life  sciences.  The explosive growth in these areas, just in the past 20 years, has dwarfed all knowledge from the past 500 years.  Ray  shared  that,  right  now;  computers  can process  information  nearly  as  fast  as  the  human brain  and,  in  less  than 10  years,  they will  surpass our  processing  prowess.  Next  stop:  computer brains  that  think  and  process  information intuitively  and  thoughtfully.  In  the  area  of  Life Sciences;  the  recent mapping  of  the  genome  has released the power of both DNA and RNA  into the hands  of  scientists  across  the  globe  who  are working fast and furious to eliminate chronic illness and extend our life spans, beyond anything we can imagine.   We  are  on  the  brink  of  a  world  we  can  barely imagine,  with  enormous  opportunity  and unthinkable  abundance.  What  the  mind  can imagine,  it  truly  can achieve. Consider  this:  in  the not  so  distant  future,  say  20  years,  robots  will replace  most  of  the  mundane  jobs  humans  do today! “You want fries with that?”
