ABSTRACT Introduction: Air Mouse is used for navigation of cursor on the computer screen. It can be waved around in air without the need of a surface. Present system & its limitations: A mechanical mouse uses a ball to detect the motion of mouse. By this mechanism, the navigation of pointer takes place. For reliable operation, it requires a mouse pad to be present on a flat surface. The ball frequently attracts dust within the device. Optical mouse overcame this drawback by using light sensors to detect the motion. But it is unreliable on transparent & glossy surfaces. These mice work only in the 2D space and provide motion only horizontal and vertical directions.

ABSTRACT

Introduction:

Air Mouse is used for navigation of cursor on the computer screen. It can be waved around in air without the need of a surface.

Present system & its limitations:

A mechanical mouse uses a ball to detect the motion of mouse.

Proposed solution:

An Air Mouse overcomes limitations offered by mechanical & optical mice and also provides ease of use. It operates in the 3 Dimensional space and provides the motion of cursor by sensing the direction of mouse in terms of X, Y & Z Axes. Since it operates in air, the need for a surface is eliminated. It works wirelessly, providing a range of 30m and is ideal for guiding presentations. All these features make the Air Mouse a next generation mouse.

Technical Working:

An Air Mouse consists of Transmitter unit & Receiver Unit. The mouse constitutes transmitter unit. It uses accelerometer to sense the movement of mouse in terms of X, Y axes. This data is given to the microcontroller which forwards it to zigbee transmitter and the information is transmitted wirelessly. The data is received at the receiver end by the zigbee receiver. This information is forwarded to microcontroller. The data from microcontroller is converted into serial data and forwarded to the computer. A software program provides the required mouse drivers for the interfacing of air mouse with a Windows PC.Hence the cursor glides on the screen in accordance with the motion of mouse.

Future Advancement:

In this project, Air Mouse is demonstrated in the 2D space, which can guide the mouse cursor vertically and horizontally on the computer screen. The Air Mouse can be upgraded to the 3D Space and can be used in 3D games, 3D Imaging & Virtual 3D applications. The concept of air mouse can also be applied for navigation of unmanned aerial vehicles, cruised missiles & so on.
