A Report on feasibilities of using plasma as a high lift device Raghavendran.R Bachelor of Technology Aerospace Engineering SASTRA University Thanjavur , INDIA [email protected] Rahul.R Bachelor of Technology Aerospace Engineering SASTRA University Thanjavur , INDIA [email protected] Abstract-Recently plasma has received attraction from various industries, as a source of propulsion in interplanetary rockets and also as a means of delaying or even eliminating flow separation in aircrafts. In this paper we study the feasibilities of using plasma as a source of high lift devices to minimize the use of flaps and slats which are mechanical devices which in turn increase the profile drag of the aircraft and also imposes structural constraints. Advantages of cold plasma as a source of high lift devices includes dynamic control of lift produced by the aircraft by varying the Electric field , Quick response time of the actuators, less weight and many more which are yet to be explored. Abstract-Recently plasma has received attraction from various industries, as a source of propulsion in interplanetary rockets and also as a means of delaying or even eliminating flow separation in aircrafts. In this paper we study the feasibilities of using plasma as a source of high lift devices to minimize the use of flaps and slats which are mechanical devices which in turn increase the profile drag of the aircraft and also imposes structural constraints. Advantages of cold plasma as a source of high lift devices includes dynamic control of lift produced by the aircraft by varying the Electric field , Quick response time of the actuators, less weight and many more which are yet to be explored.Keywords-Plasma flow control, High lift devices, Corona discharge ,Electrostatic attraction
