ABSTRACT This abstract deals with the design and construction of an Autonomous Landmine Detector Based on a hovercraft platform. The machine will be able to roam through a pre-designated Area while locking for buried landmines (substituted by pieces of metal), signaling any detected metal by visual or audible means The basic pre-requisite of mine detection is that it should be done without physical contact With the ground. The current armies of the world do this with manually controlled, wheeled Robots with extended detection arms. This leads to mainly a trial and error approach since the robot may touch a landmine at any instant , causing damage. Observation of this issue yields a simple and obvious solution: a hovercraft. A hovercraft can be considered a land based airplane which glides on a cushion of air. For this very reason , this platform is amphibious as well. This project intends to use a self-constructed hovercraft platform, fitted with the necessary guidance systems and of course: the all important metal detector unit.
