Abstract:

The study is an exploratory study which the researchers aim to determine the association of playing video games on the level of aggression of the Secondary students. The researchers respondents were 332 students who were gamers out of 417 students from Maranatha Christian college. The researchers aims also to determine what genre of the game do they prefer to play when taken as a whole and grouped according to sex, also the researchers aims to determine how long do they play everyday when grouped according to sex and to determine in what level of aggression do they scored more, the levels of aggression are physical aggression, verbal aggression, and emotional aggression if grouped with the genre of the game, sex of the respondents, and the duration of their video gaming. And with the use of Buss-Perry aggression questionnaire the researchers have conducted their survey. The researchers were also able to use the Frequency distribution table and the Mean and Standard deviation as their statistical tool and verbally interpreted the results. The results were: the gender who plays longer are Females that engage in 6 to 10 hours of playing video games and got a higher mean score and standard deviation in verbal aggression, anger and hostility, it was also found out that the high school students preferred genres of the game are FPS, MOBA and Puzzle and majority of the students plays video game for about 1-2 hours everyday. And the two genres of the game, Rhythm, got a higher mean score and Standard deviation in the physical aggression while dress-up games got higher mean and Standard Deviation in verbal aggression, anger and hostility.
