ABRAMS… PROVIDING THE HEAVY METAL TO ENSURE:

Our forces are networked; hybrid threats are deterred or defeated; and Troops are empowered and protected.Full-spectrum capabilities that can tackle both current and future needs. Our forces remain flexible and agile on the battlefield. Our forces meet the full-spectrum needs of modern, multifaceted warfare through 2050.

Modernization of Abrams allows transition and interoperability between GCV and the future ABCT.

Abrams Modernization is essential to maximize the effectiveness of a GCV-equipped ABCT.

Abrams provides the ability to dominate land operations for the ABCT now through 2050.

ALWAYS FORWARD. NEVER RETREAT. TECHNOLOGY READY NOW.

Through independent Research and Development (IRAD) activities, demonstrators will provide the Abrams with a rapid prototyping platform, development integration as well as testing and demonstration of technologies/capabilities.

These demonstrators: Quickly validate new technologies and demonstrate

concept hardware.

Capture user feedback.

Provide potential solutions to our Troops in less time.Vehicle Architecture & Software

The Abrams Main Battle Tank is the most advanced tank in the world and the backbone of the U.S. Military. Abrams modernization is vital to maintaining dominance on the battlefield, ensuring synchronization with the Army’s strategy-based priorities, and guaranteeing a quick response to changes in operational environments/adversaries. An improved Abrams will provide lower fuel use and maintenance costs, greater tactical range, and improved reliability. Planned Abrams Modernization efforts include:

POTENTIAL FUTURE UPGRADESFOR AN IMPROVED ABRAMS

New diesel engine and transmission exceed current vehicle performance requirements • Increases cruising range while using less fuel• Significant improvement in combat-day

fuel consumption• Reduced thermal signature • Maintains commonality of key propulsion,

steering, and braking components; and increases energy efficiency

Upgraded Track • 5000 miles between replacement• Reduces rolling resistance while improving fuel usage• Reduced weight• No replacement of end connectors Upgraded Suspension • Springing and damping incorporated within road arm• Adjustable passive damping Similar TDP with GCV reduces lifecycle costs • Shared costs for tools and diagnostics• Fewer spares to stock and manage – reduced

logistics footprint• Common training
