TorontoSummerMusic,throughitsFestivalandAcademyprograms,bringsworld-renownedperformingartiststoTorontoforanunparalleledcombinationofperformancesandsummermusiceducation.UndertheleadershipofArtisticDirectorJonathanCrow,TorontoSummerMusicprovidesmusicloverswithanopportunitytoenjoyanddeepentheirknowledgeofclassicalmusicbybringingaudiencestogetherwithinternationalartistsandemergingprofessionalmusiciansandsingersforaroundofconcerts,lectures,andmasterclasses.NoothermusicalprogrammingofitskindisavailableinTorontointhesummermonths,whenartistsofinternationalstaturecometogethertomentoremergingartistsandtogiveoutstandingconcertsinaseriesofpublicperformances.The2019TorontoSummerMusicFestival(July11-August3)markstheorganization’sfourteenthseasonandfeatures50+publiceventsincluding28mainstageconcertsperformedbyCanadianandinternationalartistsatKoernerHall,WalterHall,ChurchoftheRedeemerandLulaLounge,plusmasterclasses,lectures,workshops,andfreeoutreachconcerts.The2019Festivaltheme,BeyondBorders,exploresandcelebratesthecross-culturalinfluencesthathavepervadedclassicalmusicfromthetimesofMozartandMahlertotoday.TheTorontoSummerMusicAcademybringstogetheryoungchambermusiciansandsingers(18to35yearsold)onfullscholarshipstostudywithinternationalfacultyofthehighestqualityandreputation,knownasTSMMentors,inoneoftwointimateandhighlyfocusedprograms:theChamberMusicInstitute(July8toAugust3,2019)forstringplayersandpianists,orArtofSongProgramforsingersandpianists(July8to20,2019).AcademyFellows,astheprogramparticipantsarenamed,areexceptionallygiftedyoungmusiciansonthethresholdoftheirprofessionalcareerswhoarechosenthrougharigorousselectionprocessbyaninternationaljurypanelofspecialistsledbyTSMArtisticDirectorJonathanCrow.Thirty-twoemergingmusiciansfromsixcountrieshavebeenselectedtoparticipateinthe2019TSMAcademy.TheTorontoSummerMusicAcademyisfocusedonenhancingmusicperformanceskills.AspartoftheAcademyexperiencethesegiftedyoungmusiciansareintegratedintotheTorontoSummerMusicFestivalwheretheyareshowcasedintheFestival’sreGENERATIONconcertsperformingalongsidetheirmentorsandguestartists.Aswell,participantsintheChamberMusicInstitutehavetheopportunitytoplayinensemblesattheFestival’sfreeAcademyLunchConcerts.TheTorontoSummerMusicCommunityAcademyprovideslearningandperformanceopportunitiesforadvancedadultamateurmusicians.Theone-weekprogramisintendedforadvancedamateursintentonimprovingtheirskillswitharigorousdailyscheduleofrehearsals,coachingsandmasterclasses.CommunityAcademyparticipantscanchoosefromfourstreams:ChamberChoir,ChamberMusic,PianoMasterclass,andtheNEWBassWorkshopwithJoelQuarrington.Forinformationonthe2019TorontoSummerMusicFestivalandAcademyactivitiescall416-408-0208orvisitwww.torontosummermusic.com.
