About TOBI
The Orthobiologic Institute (TOBI) provides biologic and regenerative medicine education events with intensive hands-
on programs, and world-class informational products.
Mission
The Orthobiologic Institute was founded to share best practices in biologics research and orthopedic applications. TOBI
promotes a high-quality, standardized approach to biologic treatments, to advance the field, and gain recognition as
viable, effective treatment.
Vision
Global field leaders share expertise and support physicians to deliver biologics at the highest standards practicing
evidence-based medicine.
Physicians collaborate, build community with shared cases, protocols, results, and dialogue.
Patient Registry to track clinical protocols, patient outcomes, create a library of data, and publish research.
Physicians, researchers, educators, industry, and military collaborate to promote best practices and make training and
data accessible and affordable.
Initiatives
TOBI Annual Events fulfill our mission and advance our vision with the following features:
• Symposiums convene field leaders, clinicians, and scientists to share the latest research and best practices.
• Workshop intensives provide the basic science and techniques to implement biologic treatments in practice.
• Cadaver Labs provide hands-on experience with biologic treatments, taught by field experts.
• Online streaming and recorded videos make information accessible and affordable to the physicians around the globe.
• Research Poster Exhibits share new data from researchers around the world, prior to publication.
• Volunteer opportunities provide students opportunities to learn from and network with field leaders.
TOBI is partnering with American Regenerative Orthobiologics Registry (AROR), a new non-profit founded by Dr. Steven
Sampson and Dr. Gregory Lutz, to launch the first orthogiologics-specific patient registry at TOBI 2017.
TOBI supports charities like Warrior2Warrior that advocates for prevention programs and raising awareness in the
community, and The Arthritis Foundation that funds research grants on cartilage regeneration and arthritis.
TOBI Founder, Dr. Steven Sampson, briefed US Congress on Capitol Hill alongside the Arthritis Foundation, American
College of Rheumatology and American Osteopathic Association, veterans’ organizations and service members, to
spotlight arthritis in the military and call on Congress to dedicate $20 million to Department of Defense arthritis research
program that focuses on the disease and ways to mitigate its effects. Arthritis research that helps our military and veteran
populations will ultimately benefit everyone with arthritis.
TOBI supports United States military with registration grants to attend TOBI and educate military physicians and decision
makers about biologic treatments, best practices, viability, and efficacy to address the physical demands and resulting
injuries of our wounded warriors.
TOBI works with key opinion leaders and patients, like Captain Tom Chaby (US Navy SEAL, retired), to advance
orthobiologics in the military with programs like Coalition of the Willing and Warrior2Warrior.
Founder Steven Sampson, D.O. is an internationally recognized expert in non-surgical orthopedics and regenerative medicine. He graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency as Chief Resident, at Saint Vincent Medical Center of Manhattan in New York. Dr. Sampson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Sampson founded the Orthohealing Center, a state of the art facility in Los Angeles, CA specializing in non-surgical orthopedics and sports medicine.
Dr. Sampson was among the first Physicians in the world to clinically implement Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and publish research that continues to lay a foundation for further biologic based therapies. He is a regular consultant for the Los Angeles Clippers and USA Track and Field Athletes. Dr. Sampson has created instructional videos on regenerative procedures utilizing musculoskeletal ultrasound which educates thousands of physicians worldwide.
Dr. Sampson founded the Orthobiologic Institute (TOBI), and chairs and moderates one of the world’s premier annual regenerative medicine symposiums with cadaver lab featuring the foremost experts in tendon and cartilage disease. He routinely lectures on regenerative medicine including the United Nations Office of Geneva in Switzerland, Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna Italy, Fondazione Cini in Venice Italy, FIFA Football Medicine Strategies Conference in London UK and Walter Reed National Medical Center Dept. of Defense in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Sampson briefed United States Congress on Capitol Hill alongside the Arthritis Foundation, American College of Rheumatology and American Osteopathic Association, veterans’ organizations and service members, to spotlight arthritis in the military; advocating $20 million Department of Defense research for soldiers. Dr. Sampson maintains a balanced evidence based practice and has served as an editor/peer reviewer for many journals, published sevaral articles and clinical trials, and textbook chapters on regenerative medicine.
Additionally, he is a frequent resource for regenerative medicine in media and contributed to features in the New York Times, the LA Times, The Huffington Post, ABC 7, The Boston Herald, ESPN Radio and Grantland, NBA TV, The Doctors TV Show, and The CBS Early Show among others. Dr. Sampson is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Assistant Clinical Professor of PM&R at Western University of Health Sciences and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Touro University of California and New York, and is on staff at St. John’s Health Center of Santa Monica, CA.
TOBI 2017 Faculty & Alumni Over the years, TOBI has become best known for world-renowned faculty. TOBI annual events bring together field experts publishing the research in orthopedic biologics and regenerative medicine. This event has enjoyed consistent annual growth, as global thought-leaders return for annual updates and the year's best networking opportunities to collaborate on projects and advance the field. Newcomers to the field come to learn from the best.

TOBI Attendance and Reach
At Symposium this year we expect over 400 attendees live and online, plus over 100 industry professionals. In June
2016, we welcomed 378 attendees and 115 industry professionals from over 25 countries around the world.
This course is designed for practicing MDs and DOs. Specialties represented include PM&R, Sports Medicine,
Interventional Spine, Orthopedic Surgery, Rheumatology, Veterinary Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Naturopathic and
Chiropractic Doctors, Stem Cell PhD Researchers, and more.
TOBI's annual event maintains a boutique feel with less than 60 exhibitors inside the meal/break ballroom, and field-
leading speakers accessible for networking as event participants and lab faculty teaching your products.
Exhibitors return year after year for the exposure this sharply targeted event provides - thought leading faculty and
decision making attendees.
We exhibit at events with hundreds more attendees to get maybe 12 good leads.
At TOBI, in just one break we met 12 physicians and every one of them needs our products.
This event is great we'll be back again next year. OrthoScan, TOBI 2016 Exhibitor
