Rumble in the Jungle About Tiger Pause Tiger Pause was established in 1988, designed as an after- school haven where at-risk youth could have a healthy meal, receive help with homework, and learn God’s word. Over the years, Tiger Pause has grown and focused its strength and efforts into improving the academic performance of students in surrounding school districts, helping local families toward a life of self-sufficiency, and raising the quality of the workforce through education and hands-on learning. Tiger Pause focuses on Redeeming Lives at an early age. As kids from Kindergarten to 8 th grade learn and grow in a safe, wholesome environment through our various programs. Tiger Pause also Builds Leaders. We continue our ministry with teens and young adults in our community by offering business and vocational training. If we can rewire the way our fellow citizens view honest, hard work, we can hope to see a change in our community and slowly end the poverty cycle. Additionally, Tiger Pause has a desire to see Transformed Communities through our various business ministries. Here we are able to interact with members of our community and offer affordable services to those in need as well as teach the young people on our staff important business skills such as customer service, professional business standards, and accountability. Through our various programs, and with Christ at its center, we help minister to people in the community and give them tools and resources to reach their God-given potential. Tiger Pause Events Tiger Pause holds several local fund-raising events. Paid participation at events along with sponsors and special gifts help to fund the work of Tiger Pause Youth Ministry. Tiger Pause focuses on Redeeming Lives at an early age.

As kids from Kindergarten to 8th grade learn and grow in a

safe, wholesome environment through our various programs.

Tiger Pause also Builds Leaders. We continue our ministry

After-School Program

At the after-school programs, students in grades K-8 receive homework help from trained tutors, receive a nutritious meal, participate in Bible studies, and enjoy recreational activities.

The afterschool locations include: Downtown Beaver Falls, Morado Dwellings, Pleasantview Homes, Harmony Dwellings, and Midcrest Homes in Midland. Each site is run by a mix of staff and volunteers who minister to over 150 kids every school year.

Tiger Pause also ministers to middle and high-school aged boys through the drop-in center across from Beaver Falls Middle School. Students participate in a Bible Study and spend time enjoying recreational activities with Christian leadership.

Improvements in academic performance, behavior, and school attendance have been documented for students who remain in the program each year. Additionally, students have matured and developed positive ways of relating as a result of mentoring from staff and tutors.

Summer Camp Program

Tiger Pause Summer Camp is a six-week day camp during June and July for students entering Kindergarten—8th grade. The foundation of the camp is rooted in selected Bible verses that serve as themes throughout the summer. Students are also introduced to a life-skills curriculum that educates and prepares them to deal with current issues such as bullying, nutrition, conflict resolution, fitness, and servant leadership.

The campers participate in local field trips such as the Pittsburgh Zoo, community service projects, outdoor activities at local parks, swimming at the Midland Pool, and praise & worship every week. Camp concludes with an annual Praise & Worship concert for family and friends.

Eye of the Tiger Work Program

The goal of our Eye of the Tiger Program is to strengthen the emotional, mental, and social development of the participants by learning how to build better relationships with God, self, others, and creation through various work environments. Young men participate in work projects where they can learn basic skills in carpentry, electrical wiring, and plumbing along with the art of customer service. Young women learn various office skills from keyboarding and office programs to filing and data organization in a professional, organized environment. Participants learn about career options and develop marketable skills which improve their income earning potential. Program supervisors offer a Christian model of servant leadership as they seek to develop each young person’s potential.

Saddles of Serenity

Our main objective will be to teach the children to manage their interactions through their upper-brain functions of logic, prioritizing, judgment, and empathy rather than to default to their lower brain reactive thinking for which they are more accustomed. A select group of youth who struggle with learning disabilities and emotional challenges will be immersed into learning basic horsemanship skills such as grooming, cleaning, and feeding. Additionally, they will interact with the horse, overcome their fear, and learn the responsibility of caring for the horse. They will first learn general groundwork, then walking with a lead line, then riding with a lead line, and eventually riding with a balanced manner and communicating with the horse using their legs, hands, and heels and eventually enjoying trail rides through the countryside.

Sports Programs

We seek to develop youth by instilling leadership characteristics through teaching them the game of golf. Specifically, instructing them in teamwork, integrity, and perseverance. By teaching the fundamentals of the golf swing, rules of the game, and scoring along with life skill lessons on how these are practically applied in life, we hope to instill life-long values in the lives of youth that do not have those foundations or structure. The Golf Program runs three days per week as part of our Summer Camp program. Additionally, tennis instruction, a summer basketball league, and regular physical activities are offered to program participants.

Business Ministries

Our Furniture Bank outreach provides low-income families with affordable furniture and appliances. For those with a greater need, we offer our Work 4 Stuff program where they can work at various projects at Tiger Pause properties and earn the items they need. In addition, the Beez Café offers beverages and edibles for sale and serves as a place of fellowship for church groups and Bible studies. (Beez Café opening in December 2013)
