ABOUT the programme
With Goods and Services Tax (GST), our nation executed one of the most ambitious and remarkable tax reforms in its independent history. Implementing a new tax, encompassing both goods and services, to be implemented by the Centre, 29 States and 2 Union Territories, in a large and complex federal system, affecting potentially 2-2.5 million tax entities is perhaps unprecedented in modern global tax history. It will impact the tax structure, tax incidence, tax computation, tax payment, compliance, credit utilization and reporting leading to complete overhaul of the current indirect tax system. GST has the potential of transforming India, reducing tax evasion and improving ease of doing business by engendering a common market throughout the country and give a fillip to “Make in India” by “Making one India”. GST will have far reaching impact on almost all the aspects of the business operations in the country. Industry experts call it more as a business reform rather than the Tax Reform. GST calls for extensive use of technology with multiple periodic returns to be filed electronically. The success of GST depends upon widespread understanding and broad-based compliance with the GST requirements.
Programme objectives
The programme intends to give an opportunity for discussion and exchange of ideas on GST and its practical application for effective implementation. It also provides a platform and facilitates interaction among tax enforcing authorities, corporate executives, academicians, for future implication towards shaping a single tax regime in the country. This programme will provide an opportunity to recognize the strength and gap in the management of GST. It will also help: To gain an overall understanding of the GST Law and
Rules covering its implementation, compliance and enforcement issues.
To understand how GST would impact the functioning of an organization
To acquire practical knowledge of the different procedures required under GST Act and Rules such as Input Tax Credit, Reverse Charge Mechanism, Taxability of E-Commerce, Anti– Profiteering.
