About the Symposium:
Participants will learn:
The procient pianist produces good tone, develops sound techniques that prevent injury, and maintains longevity as performer by using the body eciently. The Symposium focuses on awareness of the mind-body connection in learning, teaching and playing the piano. Internationally celebrated pianist-pedagogues with expertise on pianists’ psychophysiological mechanics will conduct a two-day Piano Pedagogy Symposium at the University of South Florida, School of Music, Barness Recital Hall.
The Symposium is open to college piano faculty, college pianists, private piano teachers, and advanced pre-college piano students.
• Pedagogical heritage from CPE Bach to the latest knowledge of piano techniques• The mechanics of tone production which involves active ngers supported by the arm, shoulder and pectoral structures• How Chopin’s technique further promotes nger-arm-body-mind coordination• Body posture, body stabilization and body mapping for pianists• How to become mindful pianists, and to control touch and tone in the performances of music in varying styles• How understanding hand biomechanics can help produce healthy and ecient techniques• How to translate music into appropriate movements• How to develop “flow state” when playing the piano
USF-PAMA-The Music Gallery Piano Pedagogy Symposium Certificate will be awarded upon completion of the two-day symposium.
