She was born August 6, 1916, in Long Island, Kansas, the daughter of Harlen and Clara (Thornton) Atkinson. On April 16, 1939, she and Dale Rauscher were married in Sharon Springs, Kansas, and to this union a daughter Jane was born. Over the course of her very active and full life, Maxine was involved in many organizations including, but certainly not limited to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, PEO, National Association of Retired Employees, and the National Society of Decora- tive Painters. She was a member of the Goodland Arts Council, was on the board of the High Plains Museum in Goodland, and was an accredited Priscilla Hauser instruc- tor for decorative painting. During her many years working for the First National Bank, Maxine enjoyed making floats for the Sher- man County Fair, as well as painting and decorating various scenes, which have been displayed at the bank for Christmas seasons over the years. Along with Connie Hatcher and Jeanette Foust, she painted the Christmas Murals, which have been displayed throughout Christmas in the vicinity of Goodland Regional Medical Center. She lovingly hand-stitched banners and painted the Stations of the Cross, which are displayed throughout St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Maxine also made the banner displayed in the chapel at the Goodland Regional Medical Center. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband Dale Rauscher, who died August 10, 1994. Surviving family includes her sister Melva Stephan of Goodland; daughter Jane Harris of Wichita; two grandsons Bryan Stephens and his wife Tammy of Hutchinson; Brad Baker and his wife Shannon of Andover; six great-grandchildren Kiley Rosenstiel and her husband Joe of Wichita Falls, Texas; Caleb Stephens and Kirk Stephens, both of Wichita; Paige Baker, Riley Baker, and Griffin Baker, all of Andover; numerous nieces and nephews; and another Stephens great-grandson, due in June of 2008. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 27, at Noon Mountain Time, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Goodland, with The Reverend H. A. Lycett, officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery. Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel in Goodland on Monday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM MT, and on Tuesday, from 9:00 until 10:00 AM MT. Memorials may be designated to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 North Main, Good- land, KS 67735-1555. Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Maxine Rauscher, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Good-land Regional Medical Center.

She was born August 6, 1916, in Long Island, Kansas, the daughter of Harlen and Clara (Thornton) Atkinson. On April 16, 1939, she and Dale Rauscher were married in Sharon Springs, Kansas, and to this union a daughter Jane was born.

Over the course of her very active and full life, Maxine was involved in many organizations including, but certainly not limited to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, PEO, National Association of Retired Employees, and the National Society of Decora-tive Painters. She was a member of the Goodland Arts Council, was on the board of the High Plains Museum in Goodland, and was an accredited Priscilla Hauser instruc-tor for decorative painting. During her many years working for the First National Bank, Maxine enjoyed making floats for the Sher-man County Fair, as well as painting and decorating various scenes, which have been displayed at the bank for Christmas seasons over the years. Along with Connie Hatcher and Jeanette Foust, she painted the Christmas Murals, which have been displayed throughout Christmas in the vicinity of Goodland Regional Medical Center. She lovingly hand-stitched banners and painted the Stations of the Cross, which are displayed throughout St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Maxine also made the banner displayed in the chapel at the Goodland Regional Medical Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband Dale Rauscher, who died August 10, 1994.

Surviving family includes her sister Melva Stephan of Goodland; daughter Jane Harris of Wichita; two grandsons Bryan Stephens and his wife Tammy of Hutchinson; Brad Baker and his wife Shannon of Andover; six great-grandchildren Kiley Rosenstiel and her husband Joe of Wichita Falls, Texas; Caleb Stephens and Kirk Stephens, both of Wichita; Paige Baker, Riley Baker, and Griffin Baker, all of Andover; numerous nieces and nephews; and another Stephens great-grandson, due in June of 2008.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 27, at Noon Mountain Time, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Goodland, with The Reverend H. A. Lycett, officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel in Goodland on Monday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM MT, and on Tuesday, from 9:00 until 10:00 AM MT.

Memorials may be designated to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 North Main, Good-land, KS 67735-1555.

and Powell Sieck’s project talk was how to wash your pig for the fair. Bryson West read a poem titled “The Crocodile’s Toothache” by Shel Silverstein. For recreation Ella Ihrig led the club in a game of musical po-tato. Refreshments were served by

the Daise and Lake families. After several announcements were made, the meeting was adjourned.

Kolby Rhoades and Daniel Melia plan to marry at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Burlington.

The bride to be is the daughter of Gary and Kendra Rhoades of Burlington. Her grandparents are Sara Lee Rhoades of Burlington and Bill and Jean Gray of Roswell, N.M. and her great grandmother is Elva Powell of Burlington.

The future groom is the son of Marty and Kathy Melia and grand-son of Kay and Marilyn Melia of Goodland and the late Herb and Alice Rempe.

She is a 2004 graduate of Burl-ington High School and recently from Kansas Wesleyan University of Salina with a degree in account-ing.

He graduated from Goodland High School in 2004 and will finish his degree in airway science in De-

cember at Kansas State University at Salina.
