GenNext Approach for Leading Indian Hotel Chain Delivers High-Speed Internet Access, Centralized PMS for Efficient Operations with Quality Guest Experience

ABOUT GINGER HOTELS

CASE STUDYNomadix Internet Access Gateway

GenNext hotels strive to provide a sophisticated experience from entry to departure while taking a

lean approach to operations. This lean approach is key for GenNext hotels so their guests do

not incur high prices. Traditionally, the property management system (PMS) in hotel chains is

decentralized, which can be costly to maintain. Ginger sought a new, centralized PMS to trim costs

and operate more efficiently.

Not only was Ginger’s PMS decentralized, their existing internet access solution was inefficient and

lacking in functionality. This caused more overhead for the hotel and dissatisfaction among many of

its guests concerning their internet experience.

CASE STUDYNomadix Internet Access Gateway

SOLUTION

“Nomadix access gateways are ultra-reliable and have extremely good functionality. The gateways can be easily enhanced with

additional software to create a complete solution that will improve the internet

experience of guests in hospitality and any number of markets.”

– Ramesh S. MANAGING DIRECTOR,

D-VOIS COMMUNICATIONS INDIA PTE LIMITED

• Ginger, along with their technology partner TATA Consultancy Services, selected hospitality service

provider D-Vois Communications of India to design the network and the solution. Sri Lanka-based

Innovative Data Solutions (IDS) was then brought on board to package and deploy the solution to

meet Ginger’s needs across all 35 hotel locations. The solution needed to be able to easily mesh

with Ginger’s existing systems, notably their SAP Travel Management Suite.

• IDS supplied its hospitality broadband management platform, centraSERV, coupled with

Nomadix’s AG 2400 Access Gateway. While Ginger’s previous solution required a PC to run the

software at each location, the new solution was set up to communicate with a centralized PMS

hosted in the cloud. This cloud functionality enabled Ginger to remove all hardware at each

location except for the Nomadix gateway.

• The total solution was architected, deployed and tested in Sri Lanka without a single visit to India.

Software was installed over the internet, using applications such as Remote Desktop and LogMeIn

to configure the system online. IDS then tested the solution remotely to ensure all components

were working properly. This remote setup saved Ginger travel costs and the expense of

on-site time.

• Some of the solution’s notable features include:

- Group Bandwidth Management – allows Ginger to set the amount of bandwidth on a room-

by-room basis, irrespective of the number of users

- Multiple WAN Port Management – enables Ginger to provide two-tier bandwidth

assignments based on user category

- Single Password – allows guests to use the same password across all Ginger properties,

providing an added level of convenience

- Advance Internet Purchase – guests who pre-purchase premium internet access at one

Ginger property now have the ability to use that access across all properties

- Centralized Two-Way Communication – enables data to travel two ways – both to and from

the PMS – in a centralized fashion, thereby ensuring the information can be used effectively

across all properties

Productivity Gains and Reduction in Operating CostsThe centralized PMS provides one point-of-control for Ginger’s properties. Implementation of new

features, systems and software updates are all done in one location. This has been especially beneficial

for a budget hotel chain like Ginger, which does not have IT support staff in each location. Managing

internet access and bandwidth management from a centralized location has led to greater efficiency and

a reduction in operating costs.

Knowledge is PowerWith the two-way communication functionality, Ginger has reaped the benefits of receiving detailed

information about its guests from its PMS – details such as guest loyalty status, mobile number, personal

preferences and more. Ginger can then put this information to use for AAA (authentication, authorization

and accounting) purposes, thereby creating a more personalized experience for its guests.

Improved ReliabilityWithout additional hardware required for each location, the new solution enabled Ginger to simplify their

network and reduce opportunities for failure.

RESULTS

“With the centraSERV-

Nomadix solution, we

have been able to boost

the efficiency of our

internet access and

offer an increased

number of features that

have greatly benefited

our guests. We couldn’t

be happier with the end

result.”

– Sachin Deo IT MANAGER, GINGER HOTEL
