0302 About GAIA&GINO
GAIA&GINO interior accessories tell stories that
are witty, emotive, playful and graphical. This
boutique label is not just about collections of
objects, but is also a collection of preternaturally
talented creative minds. Founded in 2004
by Gaye Cevikel, and named for the dynamic
entrepreneur and her golden retriever, the
Istanbul design brand immediately began to
pioneer the ascent of avant-garde design in
Turkey. As creative director, Cevikel works closely
with a carefully curated roster of international
designers to create luxury pieces that are poetic,
inventive and materially precocious. The work
of these designers--Andrée Putman, Arik Levy,
Annette Hinterwirth, Brad Ascalon, Constantin
Boym, Christian Gion, David Adjaye, Defne Koz,
Emir Uras, Francois Azambourg, Harry Allen,
Sebastian Bergne, Juergen Mayer H., Karim
Rashid, Nendo, Noé Duchaufour Lawrance, Jaime
Hayon, Pearson Lloyd and Yves Béhar—is marked
by a signature sensibility that Cevikel blends
into the brand’s singular character, sometimes
surprising and a little bit quirky, often personal
and full of personality, always hand-made and
made from the heart.

Designed exclusively for GAIA&GINO and
produced and distributed worldwide by Casa
International, David Rockwell’s lighting collection
represents a meeting of the formal, the material
and the technical. Its minimalist filigree,
unexpected torque and fluid silhouettes emerge
from the “conversation” that occurs when organic
shapes that have been bent, twisted, fretted
and furled are brought together with industrial
materials and production methods. “Each of our
three lights has a dynamic form that keeps the
eye moving,” the architect explains. Like much
of the firm’s work, the atmospheric lamps tell
a unique micro-story that blends theater and
architecture, scene-setting and form.

This sculptural steel table lamp seems to unfurl sinuously, cradling and reflecting
its light source. The gold interior finish creates an eye-catching contrast
with the stark exterior to give the light a warm, dramatic accent.
Ribbon
1110
Sheets of perforated black steel embrace each other to form a totem-like floor lamp.
The gold interior finish reflects light that changes depth, tone and color depending
on how it interacts with the overlapping pattern.
Spiral

Representing a new typology in lighting, the Twist is a side table, stool, and light
source all at once. Strips of white metal assume a sculptural torque to support a flat
walnut tabletop or seat. Suspended from the belly of the tabletop, a hidden light
emits a glow that filters through the base of metal bands to cast eloquent shadows.

David Rockwell, FAIA, is the founder and
President of Rockwell Group, an award-winning,
cross-disciplinary architecture and design
practice based in New York with satellite
offices in Madrid and Shanghai. Rockwell is
celebrated for crafting a unique narrative for
each project--from Nobu restaurants and W
Hotels around the globe to the Culture Shed at
Hudson Yards in Manhattan and scenography for
the Broadway musical Hairspray--by working,
sometimes literally, at the intersection of theater
and architecture. To create his immersive
environments, smaller-scale design is essential
to many commissions and Rockwell has created
products that include surface and floor coverings
for Maya Romanoff and The Rug Company,
lighting for Rich Brilliant Willing and furniture
for Stellar Works. Among Rockwell’s numerous
honors, he counts the National Design Award by
the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt National Design
Museum and the Presidential Design Award. He
has also been inducted into the James Beard
Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food & Beverage
in America.
