CANSO The Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation is the global voice o the companiesthat provide air trafc control, and represents the interests o Air Navigation Service Providers
(ANSPs) worldwide. CANSO members are responsible or supporting over 85% o world air
trafc, and through our Workgroups, members share inormation and develop new policies, with
the ultimate aim o improving air navigation services on the ground and in the air. CANSO has
an extensive network o Associate Members drawn rom across the aviation industry, and we
represent our members views in major regulatory and industry orums, including at ICAO, where
we have ofcial Observer status.
CANSOWho We Are & What We Do
CANSO Members agree that one o theundamental pre-requisites or achieving these
goals is a commitment to the separation o Air
Navigation Service provision rom the unction
o regulation.
This is important because too close a relationship
between the provider and regulator o a service has
the potential to undermine public condence in the
system. With the complexity and cost o ANS
increasing, leading to some ANSPs being placed
in a corporate ramework, ensuring a transparent
and independent regulatory process is vital.
CANSO MISSION
Assist Members in providing a safe
and seamless airspace, with particular
emphasis on customer-driven
performance, cost efficiency, and
optimised air traffic management. Our
principle function is to provide a global
forum to stimulate active co-operation
between members and our partners in
the wider aviation industry.
Maintain an international orum or theacilitation o on-going discussion, thedevelopment & exchange o ideas on currentATM related issues and the ormation odistinct CANSO policies and positions

practice within ATM
Liaise with the other transport industrystakeholders, particularly the airlines,
industry suppliers and the airports, to theoverall benet o the aviation industry
Contribute to the continuous global airtransport debate through the presentation andpromotion o the ANSP perspective across therange o contemporary issues in the industry

In March 2008 CANSO Members voted unanimously toimplement a wide-ranging change management and
policy programme called Imagine 2010.
This three-year project is designed to reorm and
improve CANSO, to make it a more eective global
voice o ATM, and deliver work programmes which
create real value or members, particularly in certain
key areas where ATM aces unprecedented challenges.
Imagine 2010 increases the resources
available to CANSO, in both nancial and
human terms. A 10% ee increase was
agreed, along with the oer to second the
best and brightest sta rom ANSPs to
work on the three lead policy areas; Safety,
Environment, & Business Transformation.
In addition, it was agreed that CANSO
would increase the amount o money it
makes rom commercial services.
The aim o the Imagine 2010 project is to make CANSO
extraordinary. In the words o CANSO Secretary
General Alexander ter Kuile, extraordinary meansnot just exceeding our expectations, but exceeding
our imaginations. A range o innovative policy work
and communications campaigns are being created to
deliver the work programmes, transorm CANSO,
and ensure that it is the true global voice o ATM.
