The motto of the nearly 600,000 member strong organization is "To change the world one child and one community at a time." Although the Saddleback Kiwanis local chapter is small in number, it is mighty in its accomplishments. In addition to being the principal sponsor for the January Sunshine Benefit show, the club provided $57,000 this past year in scholarships to deserving high school and community college students and gave ten $1,000 scholarships to students in the "Advancement Via Individual Determination" program. In addition to the scholarship programs, Kiwanis supports the surrounding communities' children by volunteering time and expertise in a variety of programs focused on helping students from grade school through college to build self-esteem and study, leadership and community service skills. Kiwanis also has multiple programs to help and serve the community such as Meals on Wheels, South County Outreach, Holiday Gift Baskets, Help A Senior Day, Take Pride (where volunteers help to keep our village clean), and the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast which helps to raise the funds for some of these projects. Saddleback Kiwanis meets every Monday in Clubhouse 2 from 11;30 to 1:30 pm where members and guest can have lunch and enjoy presentations from prominent speakers. For more information about the Saddleback Kiwanis Club, call Denny Welch at 770-5760.
