In the scriptures "abominations" in the sight of God oftenrelated to idol worship. That idol worship can even be our own selves...trying to "justify"ourselves before God.Idoltry and covetousness are abominations to God.Turning away from God and His Word. Refusing to listen to Hisinstructions.Trying to "justify" our false worship of material items.Seeking self glory.Pretending to be something we are not.Taking pride in our own works. These are abominations. Those who are seeking vain glory, refusing to glorify God, are

the same as the pagans who set up idols made of clay andstone.

(Luke 16:15) "And He (Jesus) said unto them,(the covetous Pharisees)Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knowethyour hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men isabomination in the sight of God."

The LORD gives us warning concerning abominations, especially the

abomination of vain and personal glory. Those who refuse to acceptthe Word of God as the final authority for all of life...."For that theyhated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: Theywould none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Thereforeshall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their owndevices." (Proverbs 1:29-31)

(Isaiah 65:12) "Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shallall bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did notanswer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not."

We have a clear warning from Rev. 21:27; "And there shall in nowise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever workethabomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb'sbook of life."

"For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that isamong you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think;but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man themeasure of faith." (Romans 12:3)

"Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have aquarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." (Col 3:12-13)

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not untomen" (Col 3:23)

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of theLord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him." (Col 3:17)

Our discussion yesterday about sin, brought up the subject of "abominations" and it is clear in scripture that sin is anabomination before our Holy God.Abominations are the idols we allow to invade our lives; money, power, greed, selfishness, covetous ambitions, and by givinghonor to anything other than God.Even our own ideas and thoughts can become abominationswhen we elevate ourselves above others and refuse to humbleourselves in the sight of God.

Refusing to listen. Forsaking your teachable, childlike heart of love.Pride is one of the hidden sins of the heart. Listen to the teachingof our Master; Jesus the Christ of God:...

"..... He began to say unto His disciples first of all, Beware ye of theleaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing

covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not beknown. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall beheard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closetsshall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you myfriends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have nomore that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear:Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea,

I say unto you, Fear Him." (Luke 12:1-5)

........."But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, withoutpartiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness issown in peace of them that make peace." (James 3:17-18)

"But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convincedof the law as transgressors." (James 2:9)

"But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as anevildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any mansuffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify Godon this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the

house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of themthat obey not the gospel of God?" (1 Peter 4:15-17)

"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love,as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offeringand a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once namedamong you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in thekingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vainwords: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon thechildren of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord:walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodnessand righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto theLord." (Ephesians 5:1-10)
