Our staff is working hard to provide you the best recreation opportunities by creating a mix of your old favorites with new events and leagues. CLASS REGISTRATIONS•Registration fees must be paid in advance to ensure enrollment in the class or activity.

•Registration can be completed the first day of the class unless there is a pre-registration date listed.

•In person registration at the Community Services Office (633 Walnut) or online at www.abilenetx.com

•If a class is canceled, a full refund will be issued. Refunds will be issued if staff is notified prior to the 2nd day of class. A $5.00 service charge will apply.

WORKERS NEEDEDWorkers are needed to supervise the Recreation Centers during facility rentals. Work hours are on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Pay is $8 per hour. If you are interested, please call Donnie Hart at (325) 676-6431.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMThe After-School Program operates Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm. It is FREE and open to ages 6 to 13. The After-School Program is held at Rose Park Recreation Center, Cobb Recreation Center, Sears Recreation Center, and Daniels Recreation Center. Transportation is not be provided by the Abilene Recreation Division; however some AISD school sites do offer transportation to the Recreation Centers.

Staff is available to assist with homework, plan gym games, lead arts & crafts projects, contests, take field trips, and more.

Join us for a punt, pass, & kick competition qualifier. This competition will offer separate age divisions for girls and boys.

The necessary equipment will be provided and scoring will be based on accuracy and distance. Cleated, turf, or football cleats will not be permitted. Awards ceremony will take place following the competition.

heels & wheels duathlonThis new event will feature a 2 mile run, followed by a 12 mile bike ride, followed by another 2 mile run. You can do this entirely by yourself or pick a partner (one participant has to do all the cycling, and the other has to do all the running). Portion of the proceeds will benefit the Parks Bucks program.

Open to boys and girls ages 6 to 7. The league will be two different divisions (boys and girls). League will consist of a pre-season tournament, 6 games, and a post season tournament. ZUMBAJoin us for a Latin and international dance fitness class with a little bit of hip hop. You can burn from 500 to over 1000 calories based on your intensity. Classes begin on the 1st Monday of the month. Classes will be held at Rose Park Recreation Center

AIKIDO Students will learn to blend with an attack to re-direct the force, use throws and joint locking techniques to neutralize an attacker. Class starts on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Instructor: Ken Mills. Class minimum is 3. Classes will be held at Cobb Park Recreation Center.

PUPPY KINDERGARTENThis class will focus on basic obedience using positive reinforcement techniques. Puppies ages 10 weeks to 5 months are eligible.

RECREATION GOLF TOURNAMENTJoin us for an individual 18 hole golf tournament with the lowest score winning. Staff recommends a handicap of 10 or lower, but the tournament is open to all individuals. Players will be flighted and play will be governed by U.S.G.A rules except where noted. First, Second, and Third place prizes will be awarded immediately after all scores are tabulated and confirmed. The City of Abilene Senior Services Division offers Medical transportation for citizens 60 and older. The fee is donation based. Participants must be able to walk to and from the car without assistance. Stops include medical, appointments, prescriptions and more. Service is available Monday through Thursday from 9am to 1pm. DAILY MEALA delicious and nutritious meal that exceeds 1/3 the minimum daily requirement is served Monday - Fri-day from 11:30am to 12:15pm. The meal is served at Four (4) Centers. Special or therapeutic diets are available with a physician’s order. Senior Citizens age 60 and older are eligible to eat on a donation basis, suggested donation is $2.50. For 60 years and under lunch will cost $3.50. Monthly menu is posted on our website at www.abilenetx.com.

TRANSPORTATIONCity of Abilene offers transportation by donation for senior citizens 60 and older. Transportation is to and from one of the four (4) Senior Centers. Senior Citizens will be picked up from their home and brought to the Senior Center for activities and lunch. They will be returned home following lunch.

Bi-monthly, after lunch, transportation is provided to a local grocery store. City bus drivers will assist in loading and unloading your purchases. This service is free of charge, however donations are accepted. Please call 325-734-5300 to schedule transportation.

GOALThe Adaptive Recreation Services (ARS) mission is to provide specialized leisure and adaptive recreational activities for persons with disabilities.

FEE The program fee is $32 per month.

ACTIVITIESThe ARS Program offers a wide variety of events that focus on education, social, creative, physical fitness and more.

ELIGIBILITYParticipants must be school age, and adults that have a diagnosis of cognitive and/or physically challenged.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESARS is looking for volunteers interested in assisting individuals with disabilities in recreation programs.
