Our duties and support for MBB technologies

Our duties: Further the interests of citizens and consumers Ensure optimal use of spectrum Wide spread availability of services Where appropriate by promoting competition and innovation

Our support for MBB Ensure potential and competitive technologies get fair treatment Minimise the barriers to potential technologies.

We recognise that there is a high level of interest from industry for the deployment of LTE

Spectrum harmonisation Promoted the usability of digital dividend spectrum for mobile applications during WRC-07. Developed technical conditions now enshrined in the ECs 800 MHz decision Taking significant efforts to make the spectrum harmonised with other European countries

Cable TV interference Work is in progress to:

Identify the severity of interference and the impact to end users Identify the cost and benefits of mitigation measures

Protection clause a set of licence conditions that maximises total value to society of DTT broadcasting and the

use of 800 MHz band spectrum for new services.

    Latest activities: 900/1800 MHz bands

The EC has issued a mandate on developing technical conditions for co-existence oftechnologies such as LTE, WiMAX, within the 900/1800 MHz bands and adjacent bands.

Compatibility work carried out by Ofcom lead to change in 3GPPs LTE BS spectrum

masks in 900 MHz band to improve adjacent band sharing conditions

Draft report to the Commission in June.

    Latest activities: 2 GHz

EC has issued a mandate to develop the least restrictive technical conditions for 2 GHzbands

This is to allow new technologies such as LTE, WiMAX to co-exist with existing

    technologies

Draft report was completed in January 2010 at Copenhagen

    Currentl under ECC ublic consultation

The final report will then be passed to ECO for approval and then delivered to the EC
