Voices In The Dark

Voices in the Dark documents Christina Henri’s epic project Roses from the Heart, involving the creation of 25,566 embroidered bonnets, one for every convict woman transported to Australia from Great Britain in the 1800s.

Henri’s project asks us to consider the true legacy female convicts, sentenced for crimes of poverty and condemned by society as whores and wretches, have made to the societies we live in today.

By showcasing some of the highly artistic bonnets created by thousands of participants worldwide, including hundreds of convict descendants, Voices in the Dark beautifully articulates the spirit of Henri’s project and the emotional impact such a significant public memorial is having around the globe.

Voices In The Dark will be repeated on ABC1 – Sunday, August 09 at 4:05pm

Sin City Law covers four true crime cases, each presented across two episodes. It offers a 360 degree perspective on each case featuring interviews with prosecutors, public defenders, killers, victims, family members and investigators. Courtroom footage is juxtaposed with behind-the-scenes segments – including how to shop for an outfit for an alleged killer on trial.

This week focuses on brother and sister teenage meth-heads, Beau and Monique Maestas of Nevada, who set out to take revenge on a duplicitous drug dealer. Armed with knives, they attacked the woman’s two young daughters, killing one and leaving the other paralysed for life.

Beau pleads guilty, hoping to save his sister from a serious charge. Three years later, Beau’s penalty hearing is about to begin, and Chief Deputy District Attorney David Schwartz and District Attorney David Roger are seeking the death penalty.

With their client’s life at stake, Beau’s defence attorneys must persuade the jury to consider the case’s mitigating circumstances, particularly the horrific childhood the Maestas children suffered with their abusive, drug-dealing mother and father – the latter a convicted murderer.

Monique’s attorneys, Special Public Defenders David Schieck and Alzora Jackson, are paying close attention to Beau’s trial while preparing for Monique’s trial, which will immediately follow Beau’s. Working with an investigator and Monique’s older sister, Jackson delves into the dark details of the Maestas’ family life.

How Not To Live Your Life is an exciting new sitcom that centres around Don – a 20-something man with bad luck and even worse instincts.

Occasionally life throws up too many choices, but there are never too many choices for Don’s overactive imagination.

But every time he is faced with a big choice, his options are generally terrible.

Don tries, and usually fails, to navigate the basics of life. He manages to mess up even the simplest of tasks.

Each episode of How Not To Live Your Life covers a few days in Don’s life – as he stumbles his way through a variety of challenges – or indeed just everyday occurrences.

Don (Dan Clark) has moved into his recently deceased grandmother’s house. The mortgage payments are in arrears and there’s a strange man, Eddie (David Armand), living there who won’t leave. Don decided to get a lodger to help with the rent but school teacher Abby (Sinead Moynihan) was Don’s teenage sweetheart – and now she has a boyfriend, Karl (Finlay Robertson).

How Not To Live Your Life presents situations we are all familiar with and characters that are reassuringly, hopelessly flawed.

In episode two, Don goes camping with Abby and the kids from her school. This attempt to show her he is a good, decent man goes horribly wrong when he gets the 10-year-olds drunk in a country pub.

Danny (Rachael Stirling) is finding Veronica’s world frustratingly tedious and is struggling to maintain appearances both on the work and home front. Veronica’s best friend Siobhan (Tamzin Malleson) irritates her, Siobhan’s sleazy boyfriend Ali (James Lance) is two-timing her and hitting on Veronica, and Veronica’s boyfriend Jay (Paterson Joseph) is insistent on restarting their physical relationship.

Danny attempts to throw himself into Veronica’s fashion world, but at a big fashion show, he gets drunk and causes a disaster.

Meanwhile Danny’s friend Fiona (Angela Griffin) and Pete (Marshall Lancaster) trace Danny’s movements on the night of the storm when he went missing, and Veronica (Martin Freeman) is dejected and depressed on the streets, unaware of even whom she is supposed to be.

Lou is busy making plans to brand and expand Heartland into an ‘Equine Corporate Retreat.’ Jack continues to be the rock of Heartland who quietly holds everything together. But he has his job cut out for him as the family struggles to find a place in their life for Amy and Lou’s estranged father, Tim.

Amy also has some tough choices to make: show jumping or her work at Heartland. Forgiveness or holding on to the past. And perhaps the most difficult of all: Ty or Caleb...
