SYSTEM R-J2 ControllerNetworking Products
FANUC Robotics provides arange of networking products
supporting distributed I/O, remoteI/O and host communications.
These products allow a centralnetwork to control and monitor the
SYSTEM R-J2 Controller. TheR-J2 Controller networkingfeatures allow the central
controller, either a ProgrammableLogic Controller (PLC) or a
Personal Computer (PC), toperform cell level control functions
of the R-J2 Controller and remotedevices. These functions include:cell status checks, variable
manipulation and file transfers.
Remote I/OCommunications

signals/information commun-icated over the interface at
little or no additional cost
R-J2 MOTET Interface
Basic Description
The R-J2 MOTET Interface
supports uploading anddownloading of user programs,
data and system files for the R-J2Controller. System files includesystem variables, number and
position registers and I/Oconfiguration data. The interface
also allows direct access tosystem and data variables for
robot control via Ethernet PCBs.
The R-J2 MOTET Interface
communicates with thePC/Windows MOTET Interface toaccess variables, backup and
restore user programs, data andsystem files. The PC/Windows
MOTET Interface is a Windows-based Application Program
Interface (API) which can access
FANUC R-J and R-J2 Controllers.
MOTET (MMS on TCP/IPEthernet) is a FANUC Robotics
proprietary protocol. MOTEThandles communication betweenthe R-J2 Controller and PC
Windows MOTET Interface. Thisallows FANUC Robotics Works
software packages to provideprogram storage and monitoring
for the R-J2 Controller.

R-J2 ECBR-FTP
The R-J2 ECBR-FTP Interface isa Host Communications feature
which supports a variety of filetransfer capabilities between the
R-J2 Controller and a HostComputer over an EthernetNetwork.
The ECBR-FTP product includes
support for the File Transfer
Protocol (FTP) made popular withits useage over the Internet. The
R-J2 FTP Interface supportsuploading and downloading of
user programs, data and systemfiles to support user file mainten-
ance and development of userprograms. Many of FTPs stan-dard features are implemented
including: open, dir, get, put andclose.
FTP is a part of the Ethernet
Controller Backup/Restoreproduct which allows the entirerobot executive and user program
image to be backed up to a hostcomputer as one or more large
files. This image can be restoredto any robot controller. The imageis restored using the same
BOOTP and TFTP protocolsdeveloped for use over the
Internet.
ECBR-FTP is interoperable with a

Distributed I/OCommunications
FANUC Robotics R-J2 Model BI/O reduces wiring costs,
facilitates long distance I/Oconnections (up to 100 meters)
and easily expands the I/Osystem based on changing
needs. Interfacing to cell devicesis simplified by the family of 120VAC and 24 VDC I/O units.
R-J2 Model B I/O
Basic Description
FANUC Robotics R-J2 Model B
I/O is designed to reduce the
length and amount of I/O wiringbetween the R-J2 Controller andperipheral equipment. This
system consists of a Model Binterface unit with four commun-ication channels that can connect
up to 30 Model B DI/DO Units onthe R-J2 Controller. The max-
imum number of I/O supportedover the 30 DI/DO Units is
224/256 I/O.
A DI/DO Unit consists of either a
single I/O Base Unit or an I/OBase Unit with an attached I/OExtension Unit. One I/O
Extension Unit can be connectedper I/O Base Unit to expand the
total number of I/O per DI/DOUnit. The DI/DO Units are
mounted near the peripherals tobe interfaced, reducing the wiringlength required.
Communication along an I/O
Channel between the Model B
Interface Unit and DI/DO Units iscarried by a single twisted pair
cable channel that is daisy-chained between DI/DO Units. A
maximum of 15 DI/DO Units canbe placed on a single Model B I/O
channel.
Features and Benefits
Remote mounting of I/O Units
allows independentdevelopment of peripheral
