    1. Sketch, including all labels and dimensions, your ships Navigation Light Panel andexplain where it was located.

The ships Navigation Light Panel is located on the aft bridge console on the farstarboard side and is well lit. Each light has an LED light color coded display. TheLED also flashes if a light is out.

    2. Where is the ship whistle located and how do you sound the ships whistle?

There are two separate ship whistles. One is located on the forward masthead, inorder to allow smaller vessel to hear it more clearly as well as not awake everyone inthe house, and the other is located on the aft masthead. There are five separateactuators located throughout the bridge and bridge wings. By either pressing theactuator button on the forward bridge console, located between the two radarscreens in the bottom right corner of the control panel, the ships whistle button both

port and starboard bridge-wing control panels, the green button located on theinboard side of both panels, or by pushing the pilots whistle button, a green buttonlocated on the port-side of the main console.

    3. Rule 33 requires your vessel to have a bell. When is it sounded as per the Rules, exactly where is it located and of what material is it constructed? In how manydifferent ways is the bell on your vessel able to be sounded? How must it be able tobe sounded as per The Rules?

As per the Rules, International Rule 35 (g); A vessel at anchor shall atintervals of not more than one minute ring the bell rapidly for about 5 seconds. Ina vessel of 100 meters or more in length the bell shall be sounded in the forepartof the vessel and immediately after the ringing of the bell the gong shall besounded rapidly for about 5 seconds in the after part of the vessel.

As per Rule 35 (h), A vessel aground shall give the bell signal and if requiredthe gong signal prescribed in paragraph (g) of this Rule and shall, in addition, give three separate and distinct strokes on the bell immediately before and afterthe rapid ringing of the bell.

The ships bell is located on the Forward mast in the center of the forecastleand is made of brass.

This ships bell will only ring according to the Rules. It has two settings, aground and anchor. When at anchor it will ring rapidly for 5 seconds every 59seconds. When aground it will ring rapidly for 5 seconds every 59 seconds inaddition to three separate and distinct strokes. The bell can also be rangmanually by striking the bell.

    4. Rule 33 requires your vessel to be equipped with a gong. When is it sounded as perThe Rules, exactly where is it located and of what material is it constructed? In howmany ways is it able to be sounded? How must it be able to be sounded as per theRules? Sketch the gong included dimensions and markings.

The vessels gong is located on the poop deck against the bulkhead at midshipsand is made of an iron alloy. The gong is sounded by pressing an automatedbutton on the bridges aft control console that faces forward towards the helm. The gong may also be sounded manually with the use of a rubber mallet. 5. A certain redundancy is required of the Navigation Lights. If one of thelights should fail, how is it brought to the attention of the watch officer? How isthe backup filament or lamp activated?

When a Navigational light fails, there is an audible alarm signal that emitsfrom the Navigational Light Panel, plus the light that has failed flashes. Inorder to switch to a new filament, first depress the MAIN/SPARE buttonlocated below the light on the control panel. In order to allow theelectrician to change the bulb, flip the circuit breaker switch locateddirectly above the MAIN/SPARE button. The electrician would manuallyexchange the bulb at the navigational light. When completed switch thebreaker over and depress the main spare button to go back to the mainfilament. The only other time you would flip the breaker is if it trips.

    6. Day shapes are required to be exhibited aboard ship for certain conditions. Exactlywhere are the various day shapes stored? Sketch with dimension the basic shapes.Sketch the rig or apparatus from which the shapes are displayed when anchored andwhen the vessel is not under command.

All of the vessels day shapes are located on the aft port side of the bridge in alarge bin marked Vessels Day Shapes.

    7. Sketch the exact locations with dimensions in feet or meters, vertically from theweather deck, longitudinally from the stem, and athwartships form the centerline) ofthe following navigation lights on your vessel: Forward Masthead, After Masthead,

Port and Starboard Side Lights, and Sternlight.

    8. Distress Signals: Sketch each of the distress signs listed in the InternationalAnnex IV. Indicate color associated.

    9. Sketch as you would expect to see them from the bridge of a 750 foot power-driven vessel that is heading due east if seen broad on your port bow while youare heading due southeast.

    10. Sketch as you would expect to see them from the bridge of your vessel, thenavigation lights of a 750 foot power-driven vessel that is heading due north ifseen two points on your starboard bow while you are also heading due north.
