Chang Tang, unsupported crossing. Janne Corax and Nadine Saulnier from Sweden are claiming the first complete north to south crossing of the Chang Tang. The journey took 46 days, and although the pair hoped to climb several peaks en route (including Khanzangri), they were unable to do so, mainly due to strong winds and deep snow at low altitudes. The first western exploration of the high altitude desert region of the Chang Tang was probably made by fellow Swede, Sven Hedin, at the start of the 20th Century. A committing and unsupported south to north crossing was made in 1997 by Frank Kauper and Stefan Simmerer, and is recorded in the 1998 AAJ.
