1. Aagaaz Auditions  The auditions were held as a two phased event in the month of August 2018 on 13th (Monday) and 16th (Thursday) to allow different batches from all years to participate in the same. The two phased auditions also served the purpose to students who didn’t clear the first phase to be invited for another shot in the second phase. While auditioning, judging was performed by a distinctive panel of 5 people from different expertise including instrumentals, Hindi genre songs and western genre songs. A critical analysis was performed using a multi-set of attributes recorded for each participant. Selection of participants was later referred to from the attributes and their corresponding ratings. More than 40 students from different branches and years took part in the auditions. There were exceptionally talented people who not only were passionate about music, but felt it as a way of living. The categories in which we took auditions were vocals and instrumental. In vocals the subcategories were Hindi (Classical, Folk) and Western. In instrumental category, the participants were allowed to play any instrument they want to play and Acoustic guitars were provided by the team as well. A total of 20 participants from the interview were selected to be a part of the new Aagaaz members along with 30 old members, constituting a total of 50 member society in the year 2018-19.

NOTES 

● Dr. Vandita Sharma gave the introductory note to all the attendees and welcomed the astounding set of new members into the society. She also asked for their involvement with the society throughout the year to take it to new heights. She explained how as part of the society they would be exposed to various live events and competitions, Social Media videos, management of Music Events in the college and much more.

● The meeting was mandatory for all the members and held base for the year long plans.

● A detailed introduction session was played out with an introduction from each of the attendees about their names, hobbies and interest to increase interactivity among different members

● Chetan Chawla presented his plans on the society for the academic year after a brief session of introduction. He proposed the induction of a Youtube page, a facebook page and an instagram page along with several other events such as the Open Mic Events, participation in anugoonj (IPU annual cultural fest) and other competitions.

3. Social Media Handles Creation, Maintenance and Outreach 

The most popular personalities in our times are Social Media influencers. Social media is, without a doubt, the best platform for making a mark and we, collectively, have sought to make our mark on this platform over the given academic year 2018-19. Over the course of the past year, Aagaaz has managed to reach a previously untapped audience through various platforms of social media. Our Instagram channel, @aagaaz.bvcoe (http://instagram.com/aagaaz.bvcoe) has more than 100 followers with our most watched video having more than 350 views. All members of the society are encouraged to make videos and upload them on the channel. We believe that their fear of performing in public to a large audience can be tackled by facing both positive and negative criticism that they might face upon uploading their performances online.

Our YouTube channel Aagaaz The Music Society (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX7oRE0t9vdeDLJjdkP2_Fg) , on the other hand, has 109 subscribers. The channel currently has 21 videos with a total view count of 2499 with an average of 120 views per video and these numbers are constantly growing.

On Facebook, our page, aagaaz.bvcoe (https://www.facebook.com/aagaaz.bvcoe), has 126 total page followers constituting people from even outside Delhi, signifying our expansion. The page’s most active post has a reach of over 900 people and the page itself has over 27 posts throughout the year.

The pages were created and maintained throughout the year and would be helpful for the coming years to create an outreach throughout the college and even beyond.

4. Competitions Outside College Perfect Health Mela and IIM Rohtak 

Aagaaz took part in two competitions, both at National Level. The first one was Perfect Health Mela organized by MTNL on 26th October 2018. We stood victorious in the Battle of Bands competition and wooed the audience with a rocking performance of the song “Main Hoon” by Sanam.

We also participated in battle of bands competition at IIM Rohtak and Delhi Fashion and Fun Carnival by Delhi Cinemas. The teams practiced for the competitions in the premises’ Music Room.

5. Open Mic Events Outreaching to non-members 

Two open mic events were held in the college premises, both of which were successful in captivating large audiences in the Canteen break-out area of the college. The audience participated in the sing along and had a fun break time event to relax themselves through music. Several members from the society brought their musical instruments to play and sing along for the audience to join in. The first open mic was held on 17th August 2018 while the second one was held on 12th. October 2018.

6. Participation in Anugoonj  And related practice 

It is not just a fest. Anugoonj is to the students of IPU what Woodstock was for the music lovers all around the world. Every year, hundreds of students and teams get together and celebrate the art of music. Anugoonj 2019 was distinctive as opposed to the fests that have been conducted in the past. This year, Aagaaz proactively took part in the competitions occurring at the prelim levels in Guru Nanak Institute of Management. We participated in all 5 categories- Hindi Classical, Hindi Light Vocals solo, Western Light Vocals solo, Indian Group Song, Western Group song along with participating in Battle of Bands. Two bands were formed who competed intra-college as well. However, this year, no group and individual from Aagaaz made it past the prelims. Practice took place on regular intervals in the month of January, both in the college’s music room as well as in Jampads.
