8:30 a.m. New Biologic Therapies for Joint Disease Discover newer therapies targeted to specific mediators in traumatic joint disease, including autologous conditioned serum (IRAP® and IRAPII®) and platelet rich plasma. 9:30 a.m. Mesenchymal Stem Cells – Appropriate Use in Equine Joint Disease Review current knowledge on mesenchymal stem cells, including sources of cells and relative value in the treatment of equine joint problems and the results of both basic science and clinical studies relevant to indications in the horse. 10:30 a.m. Current Recommendations for the Treatment of Osteochondritis Dissecans Acquire current knowledge and recom-mendations for management of the various OCD entities, with particular regard to appropriate cases for conservative management versus arthroscopic surgery as well as the results of these strategies. 11:30 a.m. Treatment of Subchondral Bone Cystic Lesions of the Stifle Explore various management strategies for subchondral cystic lesions on the medial femoral condyle, including the various ra-diographic manifestations and their relative importance clinically, and recommenda-tions for best therapy techniques based on current best available evidence.

C. Wayne McIlwraith, BVSc, Ph.D., DSc, FRCVS, DACVSDr. McIlwraith is a Colorado State University distinguished professor, founding director of the university’s Orthopaedic Research Center and renowned equine orthopaedic surgeon. A decorated researcher who pioneered the use of arthroscopy in the investigation of equine joint injuries, Dr. McIl-wraith’s many honors include the 2013 Jacob Markowitz Award from the Academy of Surgical Research for outstanding contributions to medicine through the art, science and technology of experimental surgery. 

Lisa S. Metcalf, DVM, DACT – 2015 Resort Symposium Program ChairDr. Metcalf owns Honahlee, PC, an equine reproduction facility in Sherwood, Ore., and also teaches equine theriogenology as an adjunct clinical instructor at the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine. An invited speaker throughout the world, Dr. Metcalf has authored numerous articles, papers and textbook chapters on equine reproduction. She serves on the AAEP board of directors and previously chaired the association’s Reproduction Committee.

Anthony A. Yu, DVM, DACVD After nearly 10 years as an associate professor of dermatology at the Ontario Veterinary College, Dr. Yu returned to private dermatology referral practice in 2013. His practice serves Southwest Ontario, Manitoba and the Atlantic provinces of Canada. He has presented on the topic of veterinary dermatology throughout the world and has authored and guest-edited publications in various journals and texts.

Rate Deadline

To receive the group rate, reservations must be received on or before January 2, 2015.

Available: Thursday, Jan. 29 and Friday, Jan. 30Departure: 1:00 p.m.This six-hour bus tour will provide a comfortable view of the Big Island’s topographic treasures, including spectacular vistas, the Rainbow Falls and boiling pots, and the 450-foot Akaka Falls. Lunch will be provided at Mauna Kea State Park. The tour requires a minimum of eight and maximum of 48 guests.

Horseback Riding $140 per person

Available: Thursday, Jan. 29Departure: 1:00 p.m.Enjoy a taste of the Big Island’s Paniolo lifestyle with a canter on horseback over the green rolling hills of the Kahua Ranch in the Kohala Mountains. This 90-minute ride requires a minimum of eight and maximum of 12 riders. The maximum weight for a rider is 230 pounds. Long pants and closed-toed shoes required.

Snorkel and Whale Watch $155 per person

Available: Thursday, Jan. 29Departure: 2:00 p.m.Embark on a catamaran and explore the most pristine reefs on the Kona/Kohala Coast. You’ll receive an on-board marine life briefing and snorkel lesson, and will likely encounter humpback whales along the way. Deli-style lunch buffet, soft drinks and open bar provided. Wear a swimsuit and cover-up and bring towels and sunscreen. This three-hour swim and cruise requires a minimum of 25 and maximum of 65 guests.

Whales and Cocktails $125 per person

Available: Friday, Jan. 30Departure: 2:15 p.m.January is prime humpback whale-watching season in Hawaii and this two-hour sail will provide a breathtaking vantage point of these 40-ton behemoths. Open bar and snacks will be provided. Federal guidelines protecting humpbacks require maintaining a distance of 100 yards from the whales. A minimum of 35 and maximum of 49 guests are required to participate.
