Have you seen the amazing Corten steel sculptures by Germanartist Herbert Mehler in the galleries and gardens? They will be upthrough April with the generous support of Lausberg ContemporaryGalleries. Also, coming in late January are freeform steel and bronzesculptures by Czech artist Alex Kveton. These will be exhibited in thegallery from January 30 to February 17. A colleague of John Raimondi,Kveton works in a studio in New York State.

As we move into spring many things will happen at the Armory. Ourbig event is, of course, The Mad Hatters Luncheon. This fantastical,over-the-top event happens again at Club Colette, Palm Beach onMarch 1. Wacky hats, great tea-related objects for sale and analtogether crazy time, this event helps to fund our educationalactivities, especially the Artists-in–Residence program. It is theluncheon to go to in Palm Beach, to see and be seen, and buckets offun.

Also coming up is the Annual Student exhibition, February 24-March24. Armory students have the opportunity to show and sell their work;it is a great opportunity to see what happens here in the many kindsof classes we give. At the same time the Artists-in-Residence will showthe work they have completed during their time at the Armory ArtCenter. Sandra B. CoombsChief Executive

Exploration of Color, Content and SurfaceThrough Painting Level: All

Learn how to successfully create new techniques andsurfaces using any paint medium. Shibori is a Japanese term for several methods ofdyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching,folding, twisting, compressing it, or capping, asdefined by Wikipedia. We will use several of thesetechniques to prepare cloth and then dye. Cloth willalso have multiple techniques applied, to give it agreater depth of design. The Art of Shibori Level: All

Shibori is a Japanese term for several methods ofdyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching,folding, twisting, compressing it, or capping, asdefined by Wikipedia. We will use several of thesetechniques to prepare cloth and then dye. Cloth willalso have multiple techniques applied, to give it agreater depth of design. You will be introduced toseveral techniques, including pole-wrapping(arashi), stitched (nui), and clamped (itajime) shibori.All methods involve some process where the clothis bound or shaped to resist dye in certain areas.
