Are You Called to Serve in the Ministry of Compassion? “God’s dwelling is with the human race...God will always be with them...he will wipe every tear from their eyes…” Revelaon 21. Did you know that you can be this comforng presence of God to those who grieve? Our parish Funeral Ministry is in need of kind and compassionate volunteers to welcome bereaved families on the day of the funeral and to support them with presence and assistance. You would be part of a team that serves once every 4 weeks. If you feel called to serve our parish family in this way, or wish to learn more about the ministry, please leave your contact informaon at the Church Office: 727-726-8477 for Sr. Paula.

On Palm Sunday we walk with Jesus on his final journey into Jerusalem and we are drawn deeper into our faith as we prepare to celebrate his passion and resurrecon. This Holy Week is an especially meaningful me for our RCIA women, men and children who will enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.

We are blessed to have 25 people who will come into the Church at the great Easter Vigil beginning at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Among them, 11 will be bapzed and confirmed, 13 will make their confirmaon to complete their iniaon sacraments and another will make a profession of faith to rejoin the Church. As a group they have been preparing for this iniaon since September.

Holy Week provides many opportunies for our community to come together in prayer and reflecon, from the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday to Good Friday and the joyous celebraons of the Resurrecon at the Vigil and on Easter Sunday masses.

Please remember during this week our RCIA Candidates, Catechumens and team members who have commied themselves to follow Christ as his disciples, and connue to pray for them and with them. God bless us all.

Knights of Columbus Open House Come find out what the Knights of Columbus can do for you and your family by aending an Informaonal Open House Meeng on Tuesday, April 18th at 7:30 p.m. in the Gathering Room. Bring the whole family and

enjoy pizza and soda as you learn about our fraternal benefits and what it means to belong to an organizaon of 1.9 million Knights united world-wide in Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

Excerpts from Marn Luther King, Jr.’s Leer from Birmingham Jail...

...from “Why We Can’t Wait” You may well ask, Why direct acon? Why sit-ins, marches, etc.? Isn't negoaon a beer path?" You are exactly right in your call for negoaon. Indeed, this is the purpose of direct acon. Nonviolent direct acon seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creave tension that a community that has constantly refused to negoate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks so to dramaze the issue that it can no longer be ignored… ...The purpose of our direct-acon program is to create a situaon so crisis-packed that it will inevitably open the door to negoaon. I, therefore, concur with you in your call for negoaon… ...we have not made a single gain in civil rights without determined legal and nonviolent pressure. Lamentably, it is an historical fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily… ...I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regreable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Cizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to “order” than to jusce; who prefers a negave peace which is the absence of tension to a posive peace which is the presence of jusce; who constantly says “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct acon”… ... we who engage in nonviolent direct acon are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with. Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light, injusce must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of naonal opinion before it can be cured. There was a me when the church was very powerful--in the me when the early Chrisans rejoiced at being deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed. In those days the church was not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society… ...Things are different now. So oen the contemporary church is a weak, ineffectual voice with an uncertain sound. So oen it is an archdefender of the status quo. Far from being disturbed by the presence of the church, the power structure of the average community is consoled by the church's silent--and oen even vocal--sancon of things as they are. But the judgment of God is upon the church as never before. If today's church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authencity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the tweneth century.

“None of us can think that we are exempt from the concerns for the poor and for social jusce." Pope Francis

Show your concern in helping to "build a beer world", by addressing the jusce ministry issues in Pinellas County the state of Florida by aending the following two key events: FAST Nehemiah Acon – Monday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m. Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg

FAST Celebraon – Monday, May 15th at 7:00 p.m. Hosted by Blessed Trinity Catholic Church

Three Key Issues this year: 1) Criminal Jusce Support the proposed cost-effecve Civil Citaons House & Senate bills in order to reduce the unneces-sary high arrest rate of children for minor non-violent crimes, so not to brand them for life with a criminal record. 2) Affordable Housing The affordable housing crisis is worsening. The demand for Secon 8 housing has more than doubled in the last two years. Nearly one out of five families are spending over half their income on rent within our community. 3) Educaon Eliminate unsupervised, out-of-school suspensions and set-up suspension centers where students can go, in-stead of being sent home unsupervised. Your "presence" helps make a difference and is a "voice" in the fight for jusce.
