    महोदय, It is bring to your kind notice that this directorate is a regional office under Directorate

    General of Lighthouse and Lightships which is subordinate office under Ministry of Shipping,

    providing Vital Aids to Navigation for the safety of mariners playing in the Vast sea of Andaman

    and Nicobar Island. This Directorate is presently providing Aids to Navigation with 33

    Lighthouses, 03 DGPS Stations, 01 NAVTEX station and 06NAIS remote stations in Andaman and

    Nicobar Island.

    The Lighthouse Station at Keating Point was established in the year 1969 with

    complete setup of staff quarter and compound wall. During the natural disaster Tsunami 2004,

    the station was severely damaged and the staff quarters and boundary compound wall were

    washed away.

    Presently, the station is providing the Aids to Navigation in the form of Visual Aid,

    allotted to DLL, Port Blair for establishment of Keating Point Lighthouse by A&N administration vide letter order no. 2161, dated 24.8.1963.The said construction works consists of following activities:-

    1. Transportation of Construction Material from Port Blair. 2. Excavation for Foundation. 3. Casting of RCC footing, Frame and roof slab for the Building. 4. CC Solid block Masonry for the Building and Compound Wall 5. Finishing works, such as plastering and white washing. 6. Plumbing, sanitation and electrification works.

    The said works are proposed to be executed in a duration of 12 months from the date of issue of work order.

    3. Estimated Cost of the Project The total project cost is estimated to be 160 lakhs and the construction would be taken up in the fair season and completed in a duration of 12 months.

    4. Technical Details of Tries Lighthouse The technical details of the Tries Lighthouse is as follows,

    Description of Compound Wall

    The proposed compound wall is 250 mm thick CC block Masonry wall of 1.80 m high above ground level. Length of compound wall is 510 m with continuous strip footing. The depth of foundation will be 1.0 m below ground. The entrance will be secured with a steel gate of 3.60 m wide to regulate the entry of personnel to the station premises.

    Description of Building:

    The proposed building will serve as accommodation for operational staff of NAVTEX Project and visiting officers. The floor level of Building is kept at 2.55 m above Ground level to protect the building from entry of sea water during natural calamities. This building would consists of an operator room, three Guard room, a Rest Room and an Inspection Qtr.

    6. Conclusion The Keating Point Lighthouse station is located in a remote area.The accommodation

    for the operation staff and visiting officers are essential for smooth functioning of the station. The station houses various equipments in connection with aids to navigation and national security, it is also essential to secure the station premises with compound wall. Hence, it is requested to convey the CRZ clearance to the project at the earliest, soto commence the construction works at the station and ensure the safety of mariners plying in the vast waters of A&N Islands.
