ALESSANDRO GRAZIANO_ARCHITETTO PORTFOLIO

Page 2: AA1

When I started my university studies i was completely devoid of any knowledge concerning Architecture: with time I distinguished the quality from the beautiful, I defined spaces, I didn’t separate shape from structure and shape from function.

In this text I should explain my best quality, and I think that It is my will to learn, to improve myself to better understand what is Architecture, because I believe that only by under-standing things You can make something, “make” Architec-ture.

I am looking for a stimulating job that would allow me to confront myself with different realities (both European or non European), a dynamic working place and atmosphere that deals with various aspects of Architecture and would widen my horizons and interests. I have one year of experi-ence in project managing and I am very confident with com-puters. I really want to join your studio because I am sure it can enrich my knowledge and help me to improve my skills. I am ready to do my best to contribute with my personal modest expeience. “W

The brick is the base, its joint is the structure and its absence is the light: all in this project is related to the construction material, typical of the North of Italy.

These apartements are designed for young couples and disabled people. All the apartements are defined on a simple module of 45 mq: in this manner the project has the capabil-ity to change its fuction by transforming its plans with few actions.

New “Salle Polyvalente” of La Norville consisting ofone big hall for various activities and other spacesfor sports and social activities as family meetings, music, art works and, also, an exhibition hall

SallePolyvalenteLa Norville The architecture must have the capacity to synthesize the identity of the context to which it refers.Identity is a territory, materials, signs to read and to reinterpret. Identity is culture: know-how, technological culture resulting from the “traditions” arising from particular circumstances of each context. Identity is history, a necessary comparison with what was before to un-derstand the present. Identity is society: customs, conventions of each community. These were the guidelines of the project for the new multi-purpose hall of La Norville in France. The theme the multi-purpose hall is an architectural typology very present in the cultures of northern Europe, especially in large scale. In “cold” countries the village hall plays the same role as the mediterranean square: a space for sharing the social life of urban communities. A roof needed to hold celebrations, concerts, meetings, rallies, a space that incorporates multiple functions without preferring any particular one. The defini-tion of the hall is the center of the composition, around it, and especially as a function of it, were made and ranked all other spaces.

A Library inNapoli“Largo Pignasecca”The concept of this project starts from the space and the shape of Ferdinando Sanfeice’ s staircases. This idea of a dec-orative plan that hide a space characterized by intersections of floors, stairs, vaults reflects, in some way, my vision of the napolitan people: a “complicate”,deep, historical culture that is explained “simply” by few (negatives) aspects My idea starts from Sanfelice, staircase unhiding the space made up of intersections and stairs that are in the centre of the composi-tion and the vaults become great windows on the city.

The “Maschio Angioino”Temporary Pavillion From an object to a shape. All starts from the typical na-politan ashlar, with a shape of diamond. With this tempo-rary pavillon I want to reinterpret this form, this part of the city in modern terms. My reinterpretation begans from the geometry, using static force of the mineral-forms to create a shape-resistence strutcture; from object to shape: from ashlars to origami! It’s not rock, but somethig similar, with the same aspect and great resistence and made of paper and alluminium. This project shows my idea of modernity, the possibility of reinterpreting the past, the typical forms of context using new technologies.

Page 35: AA1

Mediateca of Napoli“Piazza Leopardi”This project is an attempt to measure the chaotic space of Napoli by architectural signs. This project is the attempt to “comunicate” Napoli with shape, materials, space and light. The main architectural theme is to overcome the gap between road and the new park: using a system of ramps I create a continuity from street and park. This system of ramps is made of steel and it does not reponse only to a fuctional problem, but it is the possibility to express a napolitan form with this structure: the steel system, its section, its profile recalls the ancient “antro della Sibilla” shape. The Tufo (tuff) is the main building material in this city: it has a color, consistency: the light in this project wants to recall the porosity of this rock in the desire to create a space that in all of its parts can reflect the mood of Napoli.

University Residence“Largo Olivella”This project is located in a strange part of the city: it’s an angle between two little roads. It is difficult to open on the street, and, in the same way, it is difficult to build 40 apartments in this small space. So the projects starts occupying the entire angle and creating one court. With this choice the apparta-mentst can open windows on the street, and, also, on the cen-tral court, to create a very functional building. The project’ s concept starts from the idea that Napoli is a city built on rock, by subtracting material from the earth with the cration of great massive “walls” present throughout the city. The wall of this project is somethig different, it is made of “trasparent cement” and it is the connection between the residence and the urban context: the continuity of the street and the building.

IntermodalHub inTorregavetaThis is the project of a square, not a simple square, a place to stay. This is an attempt to combine two different functions: a pedestrian bridge and a small park. The project brings togeth-er two areas divided by the railway, but also this is a “link” for human activities: a place where you can relax waiting for the trip. In the same way the park “controls” the passage, creating a complex space visited and populated by many people.

The“conversion” of a Church This academic work aims to reconvert a thirteenth century church in a small chapel and a space for exhibitions. The theme was how to work on a historic building without altering the shape and respecting the history of the small church. The answer was a “white diamond”, a roof of steel and glass that protects the space, transmitting the light. One distinctive ele-ment that accords with the original forms.
