    Are African women voiceless or do we fail to look for

    their voices where we may find them, in the sites andforms in which these voices are uttered? (Ogundipe-

    Leslie, 1994: 11)

    OBJECTIVES

    To create a platform for dialogue and discussion on

    black women in the performing arts

    To showcase the achievements of black women in

    theatre and performance sector through individual

    testimonies and performances

    To motivate young upcoming artists to challenge

    their own understanding of what it means to be a

    black woman in the performing industry and what

    contribution they can bring to the industry.

    Structure

    A two day interactive conference which will look at

    promoting an authentic reflection on womens role and

    challenges within the performing arts sector. The

    conference will focus on testimonies and

    autobiographies of four dynamic, self driven and

    successful theatre and performaning arts practitioners.
