A45 Birmingham City Centre to Birmingham Airport and Solihull route

Design stage moving ahead In March 2019 we met with the Lyndon and Elmdon residents associations to discuss the A45 scheme. This was a public meeting at Olton Tavern, organised with local councillor Laura McCarthy and Solihull Council. We revisited this community in May at Planet Ice for a further drop-in session to run through the design and understand any concerns in this area.

We have listened to your comments and feedback on the proposed design options and we are reviewing them. We are carrying out detailed assessment on the designs which involves checking the impact each change may have on the operation of public transport and the general road network in great detail, so this work will take some time.

We will provide further information on our revised design options by the end of the Summer. We will meet with residents, local businesses and other interested parties once the results have been published to give an opportunity for feedback on the changes made to the original plans.

Upcoming works

As we develop our detailed design for the route you may see people working in the area. Most work will take place without any disruption, however, if work is expected to cause any changes to access or the way you travel we will keep you informed and we will always keep disruption to a minimum.

Works will include:

• Tree surveys • Environmental / ecological surveys • Noise surveys • Vibration surveys • Drainage surveys • Traffic surveys • GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) • Street lighting surveys • Parking surveys

You can find out more about these works and what they are for at www.tfwm.org.uk/Sprint

Your chance to test new Sprint shelters – coming soon!

We have developed a prototype Sprint bus shelter and we will give you a chance to see this on the A45 route near Heybarnes Circus later this year.

We will let you know when the bus shelter is ready and ask for feedback from stakeholders and members of the public to make sure we have the right design to meet everyone’s needs including those with disabilities. We will also test the usage of the free Wi-Fi system.

Talks with bus companies begin

We are in discussion with bus companies about operating Sprint services and we are exploring new ways of delivering the service through partnership working to help ensure high quality and reliable services are maintained for passengers.

Sprint to help tackle congestion

Between 2008 and 2018, 216,000 less people are within a 45 minute bus journey to Birmingham City centre due to the increase in traffic congestion impacting journey times. With its dedicated bus lanes, Sprint will avoid traffic congestion.

These measures along with high quality vehicles will provide reliable and enjoyable journeys, encouraging residents, business owners, and visitors to choose Sprint buses as an alternative to the car. This will help reduce congestion and air pollution on the regions roads.
