Selenium-75 Radiography Sources Industrial Applications of Selenium-75 Sealed Sources Description Selenium-75 (Se-75) in gamma radiography is now becoming the nuclide of choice for non-destructive testing (NDT) applications because of its softer emission spectrum and lower energy gamma ray, which makes it ideal when high quality images in the 5mm to 30mm (0.2” to 1.18”) range are required. Compared to other isotopes used for the same application Se-75 has a significantly longer half-life of 119.8 days that reduces decay loss. This is beneficial when transported for use in remote zones and offshore applications. It also is successful in replacing X-ray apparatus in some pipeline crawler applications.
