Service Bulletin

Issued by Canon Europa N.V.

Model : NP-A2S No.: A2S-029

(FF-T01-G5-000004-01)DATE: 29.05.98

Location : CASSETTE

Subject : IMPROVING PICK-UP AND FEEDING RELIABILITY

Reason : Notification is made here of changes to the cassette design to further improve the reliability of pick-up

and feeding from the cassette.

Outline : [Phenomenon]

Double feeding or jams may occur during pick-up and feeding from the cassette.

[Cause]

1. Because the arm plate is rigid and the position of the pick-up roller is fixed, the pick-up pressure

applied to the pick-up roller may become unbalanced due to variations in the sizes of the parts that

comprise the pick-up assembly.

2. Variations in the size of individual parts may cause the cassette separation claw and lifting plate to

interfere with each other.

3. Because the pressure of the tension spring at the rear side of the cassette is strong, the pick-up

pressure applied to the pick-up roller is strong.

4. Depending on the number of sheets left in the cassette, the papers may not be consistently against

the surface of the cassette separation claws.

5. Variations in the size of individual parts may cause the pick-up unit to be slanted in relation to the

cassette body so that during pick-up, the leading edge of the paper may contact the inlet section of

the pick-up guide plate.

6. The separation claw and cassette may interfere with each other causing insufficient separation of

papers from the cassette.

[Factory measures]

1. Pressure balance correction material (sponge + high polymer sheet) has been added to the arm plate

to balance the pick-up pressure applied to the pick-up roller.

2. A sheet has been added to the back of the lifting plate to improve sliding performance between the

lifting plate and the newly added pressure balance correction material. Also, the location of the

bend in the hook section of the lifting paper plate has been changed to prevent interference with the

separation claw.

3. The tension spring at the rear of the cassette has been changed to a type with weaker spring pressure

to reduce the pick-up pressure applied to the pick-up roller.

4. Paper pressing material (paper pressing plate + paper pressing sheet) has been added to the limit

plate to assure that the papers would consistently come against the entire surface of the cassette

separation claws.

5. A cassette sheet has been added to the pick-up guide assembly of the cassette to change the angle of

the leading edge of the paper as it is fed to the pick-up assembly guide plate.

6. A 2mm thick auxiliary spacer has been added between the lifting paper plate and the sheet to

correct the pressure exerted by the arm plate.

7. A sheet has been added to the cassette separation claw to restrain the mobility of the separation

claw.
