Problem Solving Involves finding an appropriate way to attain a goal.

Consists of using methods, in an orderly manner, for finding solutions to problems.

Steps in Problem SolvingFollowing are four steps in effective problem solving:1. Find and Frame Problems - Before you can solve a problem, you must recognize that it exists (Mayer, 2008).2. Develop Good Problem-Solving Strategies - Once a student find a problem and clearly define it, they need to develop strategies for solving it. Subgoaling involves setting intermediate goals that put students in a better position to reach the final goal or solution. Algorithms strategies that guarantee a solution to a problem. Algorithms come in different forms, such as formulas, instructions, and tests of all possible solutions.Heuristics strategies or rules of thumb that can suggest a solution to a problem but dont ensure it will work. Heuristics help us to narrow down the possible solutions and help us find one that works.
