At every event I receive requests for realistic animal designs or realistic nature scenes. Among the requests are for fishing and sports fishing designs. The request is always followed with “make sure they look realistic.” I take every suggestion seriously and this one has been in my notebook for a while. The first edition of Sport
Fishing contains 10 different realistic designs for the large hoops. Each design comes in a version that is 7”x12” or 6”x10” and they all include a variation for the 5” x 7” hoop. Most of the fish use appliqué as a background to help keep stitches down and prevent the design from sinking into the fabric. For our project we stitched the design on a mans sweatshirt. The designs would also look great on home decor items like pillows and accessories like tote bags.
This was a collection What’s more fun than a collection of teapots! Instead of designing a collection of plain teapots we decided to fill each one with a beautiful scene! There are 15 different teapots in all and each one comes in 2 different sizes, 5”x7” and 6”x10”. These designs will look great on sweatshirts, tea towels, pot holders or any other kitchen accessory.
If you embroider and are quilter you are probably like me and like anything shiny! We all love metallic thread, shiny fabric and crystals. If you like those things you will love the new Mylar Spring collection. Mylar is a very shiny plastic material that you will immediately recognize from balloons you’ve purchased at party stores. You can
order Mylar online in a huge assortment of colors. These quilt blocks have been specifically designed for Mylar but you can use any fabric with them. The question you are going to ask is about laundering and care. I recommend washing the designs on delicate or even better hand washing them with a mild detergent. Do not iron directly on the Mylar or put the blocks in a dryer. The heat will cause the plastic to shrink. I recommend doing a laundry test on one of the blocks so you can see the results. There are 20 different main blocks as well as 7 different border designs. You can make anything from a pillow to a large quilt using all of the designs.
For this collection I wanted to create designs that used quilting stitches in the background and were covered with flowers that when stitched together create long strips of quilted and floral stripes. There are 15 unique blocks that can be stitched together
in unlimited combinations. Half of the flowers are appliqué and the other half are fully stitched. Both types of blocks can be combined together. The designs can be combined to create quilts, wall hangings, bedspreads and even pillows and place mats.

The tapestries, paintings, ornate furniture and engravings in the Palace of Versailles in Paris, France inspired this collection. We chose to use the dark navy blue with the gold thread stitching for our project. But you can be creative and come up with you very own color scheme.
This collection creates a stunning wall hanging that would be beautiful in a dinning room or even used as an artistic headboard above your bed. This wall hanging can be stitched out in five different sizes. This would be a lovely piece that could be passed down from generation to generation because the design elements are so elegant and artistic.

“Clever Covers”Projects Collection/Platinum Club
“Hobo Handbag”Projects Collection/Platinum Club
Clever Covers are a fun and quirky way to store that extra roll of toilet paper in your bathroom. Each project has 3 panels that stitch together, leaving an opening on the bottom to place over a standard roll. With over ten designs to choose from you can make one or make a whole set.
Revers-a-Bowl is a clever project that creates a practical and decorative bowl. These are fast
and easy “In the Hoop” Projects, that only require a few seams to complete!
Each side of the bowl is treated as a separate appliqué. The final stitches
cover all of your raw edges and create a crisp clean finish. Then you’ll use your
sewing machine to sew the panels together and create your dimensional bowl. Fill with
potpourri, candy, jewelry, or sewing notions!

Here at Anita Goodesign we are always looking for the latest trends in the world of embroidery. We have noticed that embroidery on clothing is making a come back! So, that inspired us to give you some tips for embroidering on garments. We also have a product line titled Anita Goodesign Fashion Collections. Go to our website and take a look at all of our beautiful fashion collections. These collections were designed with fashion clothing in mind and the designs were all tested on garments to guarantee perfect embroidery results.
Here are some of our fashion rules and tips.
1. Start with a quality garmentThe better the garment, the better your end result will be. Cheap clothing generallydoesn’t have good sewing techniques to begin with and are made using cheaper grades of fabric which don’t hold embroidery well.
2. Don’t be afraid to use your seam ripper!A lot of the techniques we use will require you to open up seams and literally take your garment apart. You have an embroidery machine that costs thousand of dollars don’t be afraid to rip apart a $50.00 pair of jeans. Besides, ripping it apart is easy, its putting it back together that’s tough!
3. Experiment!Creating your own custom garment will require experimenting with different fabrics and embellishing techniques. Don’t be afraid to try something new.

Applique does not just apply to Fashion and garments;it can be on any kind of embroidery project. We even have applique on four of our releases this month. The Gaming collection has applique designs incorpo-rated on a denim shirt.

Leather & Raw Edge Applique Techniques

If you look at contemporary clothing you will see distressing techniques used often. We’ve also been noticing leather used a lot in applique designs and in the garment construction itself. A lot of you may be afraid to work with leather or don’t have any experience with it. This section of the tutorial will show you how to do both leather applique and raw edge applique. The design we are using is from our Glamour Rocks Fashion collection. This design is perfect to demonstrate both techniques because it is a double applique.
The first technique used in this design is raw edge applique. When the design reached the first applique section you will see an outline stitch in the shape of the first applique sew out.
Lay your applique fabric so that it completelycovers the outline stitch area. For this appliquewe used a novelty knit that almost looks type dyed. If you use a knit for raw edge applique itwill curl when washed, if you use a woven it will fray. Once the fabric is in place stitch the next step. This is called the tacking stitch and it will hold the fabric in place.
Now its time to trim the first applique. Carefully remove the hoop from the machine and place on a flat table for trimming. Use a pair of applique scissors and cut around the whole applique. The width of the edge you leave will determine how much the applique will curl or fray. Always trim a little wider, you can always go back and trim more later.
Return the hoop to your machine and embroider until you reach the next applique.

The first step of the leather applique will be an outline stitch again. Once this stitch embroiders lay your leather down so it completely covers the outline stitch.
The next step will tack the leather in place.
Now its time to trim the leather applique. Carefully remove the hoop from the machine and place on a flat table for trimming. Use a pair of applique scissors and cut around the whole applique. You will want to trim this closer than the raw edge applique.
The finished design.
Tips for working with leather.
1. Use thin leather, thick leather is tough to stitch down and cut. If you search online you will find plenty of websites that sell leather scraps in dozens of colors.
2. Leather only works with designs with a running stitch outline. Satin stitch outlines will perforate the leather.
3. Washing the leather won’t harm the skin, however drying it will. Do not put items with leather applique on them in the dryer, air dry your garment.
